Hello folks I am here to show you the diaster hat occured to my 3 element 40 meter yagi. The long of the short is it had a bad fall to the ground after a tree we were cutting down hit the guy wire that controlled the hazer movement.

I do suggest that you when clicking on the links below you need to right click on " Open a new tab " so not to loose the current webpage to see all the images. Now some the links below are AVI videos, so if you are using dialup u may not want to view them because of the size of the file.

The picture below is for the antenna after I had restrung the ropes and it is before the damage occured.

So here we go...

The first video is of the morning recording and the condition of the antenna and you will notice in the back round on the left hand side of the video you will see the back part of our yard and a line of trees that were leaned over the neighbors storage building that we were going to remove so not to cause damage to his building.

The video is of the antenna tower and the tree line before we started cutting the trees down.

Everything was going great and then it happened, we were removing tree number 8 when the center of the tree was hollow and the bottom of the tree broke loose from the stump and swung into the guy wire that was attached to the hazer. Needless to say it was a poor judgement call on my part. The tower twisted and had a bad lean, so I ran in the house to turn the antenna so we could lower the antenna and then the northwest guy wire finally snapped and I was told it looked like slow motion as the tower slowly folded up and down it came. It could have been worse.

I estimate the amount of tension the guys got was at least 8000 to 9000 pounds of pressure. The leg of the tower that the guy snapped on was crushed down into it's self. In the past I have spoken to the engineers at Rohn, the tower would stand 11000 pounds of crush weight before any serious damage would occur on 25G tower.

And when I came out of the house I went numb, I was so stunned I was speachless. I was paying the crane operator $100 dollars an hour, and it wouldn't have done any good to rant and rave so we finished the last of 9 trees that needed to br removed.

This the video of the bent up yagi on the ground. Please excuse the jerky images , the display on the camera is small and is very difficult for me to see. I do make several mistakes on what you are seeing.

The video it on the tower and yagi reinstalled 1 month later. it is a little bent but it still plays great.
