We are two weeks from Art on the Pews, November 6-7, and we are still looking for musicians to perform for one hour or so on both days. We have several people who have come forward, but we have several more spots open. This venue is a great opportunity for new and emerging performers to gain public exposure for their work, and also a great place for long-time Cambridge folks to connect with a new audience. Over the two days of the show we have had over 700 people through the doors.
If you come to perform in this great space, you are welcome to promote and sell your own CD's, pass the hat, and generally promote your group. Past performers include Jaap Schroeder, violinist, Peter Watchorn, organ (who will be with us this year), and Josh White, cello. We encourage any type of music from acoustic instruments to electric guitars and keyboards! Our goal is to provide musicians with an opportunity to present their work within the venue and hopefully bring them work in their field.
If you are interested in performing, please contat the Show Director, Nancy Trottier, through this link. We will be in touch!
I have been meeting exhibitors in the space at the church and discussing their display needs. If you are an exhibitor and have not sent in your paperwork, please do so this week! Exta forms are available on the website if you have misplaced yours. We will be making the show floor plan layout this week and need to have your forms in hand. I plan to call everyone this week to follow-up on the small details, but you are welcome to email me through the link above as well.
We are getting calls from folks who want to attend and also who are interested in the type of work that will be for sale. Demonstrations of watercolor, wood block cutting and printing, calligraphy, jewelry making, weaving, and drawing are on the schedule. The Kids Art Corner is coming together nicely with woderful supplies donated from Artist and Craftsmen Supply in Cambridge. Our Church School folks will be staffing this table and are excited about helping children of all ages make a piece of art to take home!
Remember, mark your calendars for November 6-7 and "Stay on this Side of the Charles" for a great fine arts and crafts family friendly event!
Bill Gould, Lead Sign Artist for Trader Joe's on Memorial Drive in Cambridge, painted this sign for us a couple of years ago. Artists and Craftsmen Supply, the sponsor of the corner, provide us with amazing supplies each year for this "family friendly activity" during Art on the Pews. We are already getting calls from parents interesting in bringing their children by to make piece of art with us! It really is wonderful to watch children tour the show, and then come by to make their own art. It is really amazing to watch the children's faces light up when they are making art in this corner.
Children are able to use all sorts of materials, including water based paint, crayons, glue, buttons, pieces of marbled paper, pens, pencils, and ink to create their own piece of original art. Sometimes they work together on one piece as well as making one all by themselves.

Parents must stay with their children while in the Kids Art Corner, but we always have a volunteer on hand with paper towels for materials assistance and quick clean-up! Mark your calendars now for Art on the Pews and plan a trip to the Kids Art Corner!
