2009 NW Chapter Field Trips:

April 25 Saturday. Mt. Townsend, Buckhorn Wilderness. A joint hike with WNPS.
The Hood Canal Bridge closes May and part of June so this will be the best chance to try to get to the top to see the unusual early flowering Olympic Synthyris. A very strenuous hike (8mi RT, 3000ft elevation gain and loss) crossing large areas of packed snow. Tentative schedule: Lv Ravena P&R 7am, take Edmunds ferry 7:55, arrive Quilcene Ranger Station 9am, arrive trailhead 945am. Sign up/ inquiries, contact Richard Ramsden (sea9948@earthlink.net)

May 31 Sunday Chumstick Mtn
Drive obscure forest roads north of the Leavenworth area to see the most beautiful flower in the state, Lewisia tweedyi. Optional short hike afterward south of Cashmere to see the second most beautiful flower in state. Easy. NARGS 75th Anniversary Special. To sign up, contact Richard Ramsden sea9948@earthlink.net

June 27 Saturday Tronsen Ridge/Haney Mdws
Casual walk, 5 miles RT. Fine floral displays on open ridge in Wenatchee Mtns. Unusually high concentration of diverse species, including several unique to the area. Meet at 9:30am at the Swauk Forest Discovery Trial parking lot 1/4 mile east of Blewett (aka Swauk) Pass (US-97) on FS9716. We will then drive on the final five miles to the actual starting point for our trip at Haney Meadow Horse Camp. Joint hike with WNPS. Seattle carpool from Ravenna P&R leave 7:30am, Issaquah P&R leave 8:15am. Group limit 15, leader Richard Ramsden contact sea9948@earthlink.net.
