Well, transit riders lost out Nov 4... one of the few downsides of an election that seems to bode fairly well in most areas.
I've noticed a push by the so-called "Partnership for a Drug Free America" and have to laugh. I mean honestly... the BS they are shoveling makes Reefer Madness look positively scholarly by comparison!
I've got no beef if they really want to continue their failed policies of Prohibition in their "War on (some) Drugs" but they keep trying to include cannabis which is only schedule 1 because the Congress, medical experts that they all are, simply say so, regardless of facts, evidence and outright proof.
Some day, hopefully soon, this government will figure out that perpetuating a failed policy will not make it miraculously succeed someday. It's Einstein's definition of insanity (doing the same thing over and over expecting different results) all over again.

Vote YES for the Salem-Keizer Transit Levy!
Measure 24-247 is on the November 4, 2008 ballot and it is important that it pass! Without the levy service cuts will be dramatic including the loss of Saturday service. That is unacceptable!
Mass transit, especially in these days of economic upheaval and $4 a gallon gasoline is imperative. It is a necessary infrastructure element that actually returns to the community over $3 for every dollar put into it.
Between reducing wear and tear on roads reducing the costs of maintaining and repairing the roads and reducing the need for expensive expansions of the roads (as if they can always be widened... they cannot always) it is difficult to think the public would be ludicrous enough to not support this levy.
It is less than the cost of a couple Mochas or Lattes a month. Hardly that which would break the fiscal back of any homeowner who is not living beyond their means already.
The lies, myths and generally idiotic misrepresentations and disinformation put forth by anti-transit hacks get more desperate every day. It is annoying to have to correct their lies all the time but it needs to be done and not just by me.
I look forward to Nov 5 with the transit levy passed, the GOP (with McBush and Bible Thumper Barbie) fully routed nationwide and the ability for this country to begin repairing the damage caused by the rogue GOP administrations that have been bankrupting (fiscally, ethically and morally) this nation for far too long.

Well, Kevin Mannix seems to still be up to his old games. Weeks ago he announces in a Willamette Week interview that he is dropping Initiative 131, however even as of late June the Secretary of State's office still lists it as active and seeking signatures. WTF?
Typical Kevin Mannix.
Gas has been fast approaching $4.50 a gallon. Never thought I'd say that. Never thought I'd actually see people paying that. It is ridiculous.
People complain there is 'no parking in downtown Salem' when in fact there are at least three parkades. Oh, but then these lazy slobs might actually have to walk more than six inches from their car to where they're going. Oh the horror! The humanity!
If this transit levy does not pass in November with fuel as it is then I think the average IQ in the area has dropped below that of cabbage.

Kevin Mannix has got to be the sleaziest con artist ever to come down the pike in Oregon. One could even say he gives politically opportunistic snake oil salesmen a bad name.
Not only is he pursuing Darlene Hooley's US Congressional seat, but he also is presenting a little Trojan Horse of a ballot initiative (#131 - allegedly called the Oregon Crimefighting Act). Why do I call this a Trojan Horse? Because this measure has nothing to do with fighting crime. It dresses up its actual goal with all the window dressing of fighting crime but the core reason for the existence of this travesty of dishonesty is to repeal the Oregon Medical Marijuana Act (OMMA).
This measure eliminates the popular twice voter approved program and replaces it with Marinol and other 'faux' THC products of Big Pharma. Oh no! We cannot allow people to be able to treat their afflictions and symptoms with a plant anyone can grow! Oh heavens preserve us from that calamity! We must only put our trust in Big Pill! Forget that millions have DIED from taking the products of Big Pharma while not a single person has ever died from using marijuana (medically or otherwise). Even alcohol and tobacco have death tolls annually in the hundreds of thousands while the death toll from Cannabis remains what it has always been throughout human history... ZERO.
No... Kevin Mannix is going to 'save us'. Shya-right. And if you believe that I have some lovely oceanfront property in Nebraska to sell you cheap!
True is that even if he passes his horse manure at the polls it will never be enacted as it is a constitutional amendment that fails the single topic rule... since it promotes itself as fighting crime yet there is nothing crime related in the OMMA. If nothing else Measure #131 is a perfect example of WHY the single issue rule exists.
Go crawl back under your rock, Mannix. Oregonians are not buying what you are selling and hopefully never will again.
