On this 3rd day of Decmber 1932, personally appeared on open couty, now sitting, before the Justices of the Henry County court, now holding court in the said county of Henry and state of Kentucky _ it being a court of record Mathias Shuck, a resident of the county of Henry and state of Kentucky, aged seventy three years who being first duly sworn according to Law, doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the act of Congress passed June the 7th 1832_ That he entered the service of the United States under the following named officers + service as herein stated - towit _ under Captain Jacob Linder - That he was drafted for six months as a private in the Virginia militia _ That he served the six months for which he was drafted as a private aforesaid and a few days over the six months but claims the pension only for the six months _ That he entered the service and joined the army at Little York on the 16th day of October 1781 _ just before Cornwallis surrender _ That he was at the taking of Cornwallis _ Genl Washington commanded + Genl Lincoln _ The Frenchmen Rochambeau + DeGrassi men who then commanding _ That from old age + loss of memory he does not recollect the name of the Col. or the number of the Regement in which he served _ That after the surrender of Cornwallis, he continued in the army + was one of the guard of the British Prisoners up to some Barrak were ????? in Virginia _ Capt. Linder was with us at the Barrak That he does not recollect the name of the ???? officers. That he can ??????? at the Barrak guarding guarding the prisoners until the last of April 1782 when he was discharged in writing but has long since lost his discharge by Capt Linder That from old age + the consequent loss of memory he does not recollect the day of the month on which he was discharged but he well recollects that it was the 16 day of October that he entered the service + that he was drafted for six months + that he served six months + some few days, not more than ten days _ That he was [Page discharged in the month of April 1782 by Capt. Linder That when he entered the service as afd [aforesaid] he resided in the county of Berkley in the State of Virginia, that he was born [crossed out: "on the day of "] in the year 1759 - but does not know [crossed out "recollect"] the month _ That his farther had a record of his age as he has been informed, but he never saw it + has none himself _ he has always understood from his relations that he was born in 1759 _ That he was Born in the state of New Jersey _ + in the year 1760 _ went to Virginia _ That after the revolutionary was was over he removed to the state of Kentucky, then a county of Virginia _ where he has lived ever since + principally in the county of Henry where he now lives That he is well Know in his present neighborhood to John Jones + Nicholas Smith who can testify to his character for veracity + ???? they believe that he served as a soldier of the Revolution, as above stated _ That he has now no documentary evidence of his service and that he Knows of no person whose testimony he can procure _ by whom he can prove his services He hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a pension or annuity except in present and declares that his name is not on the pension Roll of the agency of any state _ his Mathias + Shuck mark We John Jones a Clergy man, residing in the county of Henry State of Kentucky + Nicholas Smith residing in the same place hereby certify that we are as well acquainted with Mathias Shuck who has subscribed + sworn to the above declaration _ That we believe him to be seventy three years of age, that he is reputed + believed in the neighborhood, where he resides to have been a soldier of the revolution + that we concur in that opinion _ sworn to + subscribed the day ____ afd [aforesaid] John Jones [signed] Nicholas Smith [signed] [Page ] State of Kentucky Henry County December Term 1832 December 3rd On this 3rd day of December 1832 came hereinto Couty (being a court of record) Mathias Shuck and produced and filed hereinto Court his declaration for a pension under the act of Congress 1832 to which he was sworn and the Coury hereby aslave their opinion after the investigation proscribed by the was department that the above named applicant was a revolutionary Soldier and Served as he stated. And the Court further certifies that it appears to them that John Jones who has Signed the preceding certificate is a clergyman resident of the County of Henry and that Nicholas Smith who has also signed the Same is a credible person and a resident of Said County and their Statement is entitled to credit.
