Note: I have obfuscated individual email addresses. For the "older" addresses I have replaced the "at" sign @ with the character string ' [at] '. This is the result of the insidious situation with SPAM that has become a major problem in the internet today. Spammers use automated robots, similar to those used by reputable search engines, to scan websites and harvest email addresses. If you wish to contact an individual with an altered address, simply replace the ' [at] ' character string (removing spaces) with the usual @ symbol. "Newer" ones use Javascript coding to obfuscate the searchable html code but display and link to actual email address.
As of June 2012, many (maybe most?) of these website links and email addresses are no longer valid. Only contact me about them if you know its replacement.

I am researching the ancestors and descendants of Lawrence Shook. He abruptly appears buying land in Frederick Co. MD in 1758. He later moved to Hardy/Grant Co. WVa, near Harmonous Shook, who I am also researching, since they could be related. Lawrence was a German Baptist "Dunker" and so might be from Lancaster Co. PA. Lawrence's known children are Soloman, Elizabeth, Jonas, Daniel, and Samuel. They migrated to Illinois c.1800. Visit my website on Lawrence and other Shook/Schuck/Schoch/Shock families.

Very interesting and informative website dedicated to the descendants of Johanne Jacob Shook (1749-1839) including pictures of the old Shook homestead in Haywood Co., North Carolina that is being restored. Also includes a transcription of the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Haywood County, North Carolina that is the burial place of many Shooks and their families. Sadly, Bob Jones passed away December 13, 2004 and the future of the website is uncertain as of that date.

Searching for origins of John Shook born somewhere in PA and died before 1832...don't know where. He married Hannah Scevit or Sevitz born abt 1793 in PA and died aft 1860 in Tyler Co., WV. John and Hannah had children: James b 1813, William b 1817, Matilda b 1819, and George Washington b 1822. Children were born in Pa. After John's death, Hannah had a child with Joseph Barkhimer in 1832 in Tyler Co., WV. I don't know if they were married or not. George Washington Shook lived in Monroe Co., OH and died in 1921 in Washington Co. OH. [Note: This is apparently NOT the John Schuck (1783-), s/o John Henry Schuck-2, gs/o Philip Schuck-1 of Northampton Co. PA [2.0] as had been previously thought.]

Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Disposition: Inline Hi Pamela, I'm glad to hear from you, but I have to tell you that the information you have on John Shook b 1783 marrying Hannah Sevitz and being the father of the children mentioned, came from me originally, and I'm pretty sure it is incorrect. Several years ago I made the huge mistake of jumping the gun and assuming I had found the father of my John Shook born in PA. Unfortunately, I posted this information on the Maiden's Choice website, and it has taken on a life of its own. I try to correct the infromation everytime I see it, and the owner of the Maiden's Choice site has added a note saying it is incorrect, but the last time I checked, it was still there. Here is what I actually have on my John Shook. He was born somewhere in PA about 1790 or possibly earlier. He married Hannah C. SCEVAT. John apparently died before 1832 because in 1832, Hannah had a child by Joseph Berkhimer in Tyler Co. WV. Hannah was still living in Tyler Co. in 1860. Hannah and John's son George Washington Shook was my ancestor. He moved across the OHio River to Monroe Co., OH. I don't have anything on your George but will keep you in mind if I find him in WV. I have found more on the Marshall Co. WV Shooks. My apologies to all the Shook researchers for the misinformation I posted. Susan Runyan
I have a certificate that was in his family Bible that says in German (I think...no German spoken here):
It is noted in English that this was Ida Schuck's father. Ida was born in 1854. However, another notation indicates her father was William Schuck. Perhaps he was William Lazarus SCHUCK. The birth year would certainly about right to be her father and I can't figure out why else they would have this great old original baptismal cert in German.

I am trying to find out more about my Shuck ancestors. My g-great grandfather's name was Elias Shuck. He was born December 26,1827 in Lewisburg, Union Co., PA the son of John. He married Sarah Ann Moored on September 16, 1849 in Hancock County, Ohio, where she was born on October 18, 1833. They had nine children, eight born in Ohio and one most likely in Michigan. Their names are: Amanda Jane, William P., Benjamin Franklin, John W., Lizzie M., Julia Ann, George R., Floretta, and Alexander. Elias died Sept. 20, 1899, in Salem Township, Allegan County, Michigan, and Sarah died June 25, 1904, in the same place. One of my uncles told me that we used spell our last name Schuck. If anyone has a possible connection to this branch, I would be very glad to hear from them. Thank you.
My husband is a great grandson of Julia A. SHUCK, daughter of Elias Shuck, and ANDREW THOMPSON.

Looking for parents of William Shuck. Born about 1824 in Kentucky. Marr. Nancy Todd 19 APR 1855 at Pike Co. Missouri. She born abt 1833 Kentucky. Listed US Census - 1860: MO/Pike Co. Had children: twin boys died in infancy, Sarah Elizabeth Shuck, Lucy Catherine Shuck, Jesse Shuck, John William Shuck, Henry Shuck and Hattie Shuck.
Looking for parents of Anna Shuck b. Nov 2, 1759 married first S. Peter Durie, in VA, they moved into KY in about 1777-8 near Lime Stone, now Maysville, Mason Co. He was killed there by Indians and she later married Daniel Banta. They lived in Henry Co. Ky. She died June 10, 1829. Daniel was the son of Henry Banta and Ann Demerest.
Note about this:
ANNA SHUCK. The Banta Genealogy page 95 states, "Daniel Banta married Anna Shuck, widow of Peter Duree, who was born Nov. 2, 1759 and died June 10, 1829." This Daniel was a brother of Cornelius Banta who married Magdelena Shuck Duree, widow of Peter's brother, Henry Duree. Peter Duree was killed by Indians in March 1781 (Low Dutch Company history, pages 16-17). These Banta and Duree connections with the Shucks are circumstantial evidence that the widow Anna Duree 's maiden name was Shuck. The Conewago baptisms for Peter and Anna Duree's two children are inconclusive evidence. Both baptisms (1775 and 1778) spell her maiden name as "Seever." Perhaps the most compelling circumstantial evidence is that Daniel Banta and Anna Duree were married in Lincoln Co. on the same day (June 5, 1784) that his nephew, Henry Banta, married Sarah Shuck. Squire R.H. Shuck in his 1903 memorandum mentioned only two of his aunts (not three) as married to Bantas -- and it is clear the two Bantas were Cornelius and Henry (he calls Henry Peter, but states he lived in Bourbon Co.). If this widow Anna Duree was a daughter of Andrew Shuck, then she was for some reason left out of her father's will. The Hannah Batess named in the will is occasionally interpreted as Hannah (Anna) Banta, but this ignores her recorded marriage (see #9 above). There might be some conflict with Anna Banta's Nov. 2, 1759 birth date and Mathias Shuck's 1759 birth date. The descendants of Peter Duree and Daniel Banta are given in the Banta Genealogy under # 504 and 492.
The above is followed by a hand-written note:
"Should not be included. This is an error continued in several manuscripts including mine. There really was an Anna Seever. There was no Anna Shuck in this line."
A couple notes about the above:
There is another mystery person, an apparent Agnes Shuck also mentioned in Banta, and Martha's narrative about her preceeds the section for Agnes:
AGNES SHUCK. According to the Banta Genealogy page 94, "Cornelius Banta married first, Magdelena Shuck, widow of Samuel [Henry] Duree; second, her sister Agnes Shuck; and third, a widow, Nancy Van Nice, who survived him. His first two wives were sisters of William Shuck, who married Mary Banta; another sister, Sally, married Henry Banta." If this Agnes Shuck existed, then she was for some reason left out of her father's will (Cornelius' first wife was still living in 1803). Futhermore, I have never noted any other record of the Cornelius Banta - Agnes Shuck marriage.
See notes for this county.
