Today's Art lessons:
Artist statement: Most of my work is purely aesthetic - no real meaning
or symbolism. Look at it, if you like it, good, if you don't, OK.
There usually is no deep explanation behind a piece. I get an image
and go with it. After it's done I may find a reason as to why I came
up with it, but I hardly ever start a piece or put something into a work with an
explanation in mind. I am just following images either pulled from
my head or the surrounding landscape.
- Painting
- I started oil painting during my senior year in high school in 1984.
I had done watercolor paintings in school art classes before, but this
was my first try on my own.
- I am pretty much self taught. I did take a 2 semester painting
class in college, taught by Cleveland artist Chris Pekoc.
- I consider most of my paintings experiments, since I am always
trying to figure out a new technique or style.
- Some of my works are on display at
Turkaly Art Gallery in
Cleveland, OH.
- Drawings
- Drawings and other inane things I have come up with.
- I have probably done thousands of doodles, sketches and drawings
ever since I was a kid. Most are lost, thrown or given away.
I certainly can't show my entire sketchbook, so these are only the more
involved or unique pieces I have done.
- Sculpture
- This section only contains two pieces, however, I have made many,
many small sculptures throughout the years, most which were made in
modeling clay, or some other non-permanent medium. They are
all long gone, no record of their existence.
- All of my training comes from being around my father's studio while
growing up.
- Jewelry
- I started making jewelry when I decided to make my own engagement
ring for Kim. I got a couple of books and began making rings in
silver. I used glass gems, or other easily obtained material, to
figure out how to set stones. Once I got comfortable, I bought
some gold and succeeded in making the engagement ring on my first try.
Once bitten by that bug, I continued making other pieces, until I ran
out of gold.
- Crafts
- This is the place for all other works of artistic nature.
- Halloween costumes, and anything else that doesn't
fit into any of the above categories.
- Campus Gallery - under
construction
- Our collection of artwork by other artists.
