The $100,000 Tanning Prize, endowed in 1994 by the painter Dorothea Tanning, recognizes outstanding and proven mastery in the art of poetry. Recipients are selected by a panel of judges appointed each year by the Academy of American Poets, and the winner is announced in the fall.
