Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q. While playing, are there any "common courtesies" that are normally
observed by players?
A. Yes, there are a few "common courtesies." Usually players wish each
other "good luck" at the start of each game and acknowledge an outstanding
play during the game by saying "nice play" or something to that effect.
At the finish of the game, it is considered good sportsmanship to congratulate
the winner, and players will usually thank each other for playing.
Q. Can Mac users use the Networdz game?
A. Unfortunately there is not a
Networdz version suitable for Macintosh computers.
Q. Are there any foreign language versions of Networdz?
A. While the game at one time was available in a number of languages at
one time it, unfortunately, no longer is.
Q. What about the dictionary...it appears that words may be added to it
and/or removed from it. Is this permissible?
A. No...it is not allowed. Tampering with the dictionaries is considered
cheating.
Q. Why then is it possible to modify the dictionary if it is against
the rules?
A. We don't know why it was programmed that way but have reason to believe
that the programmer thought better of it afterwards and was planning to make
the dictionary inaccessible in future versions.
Q. What if a player believes an opponent has tampered with his dictionary?
A. Since the Host's dictionary applies in a game such a player should not be
permitted to Host.
Q. In a re-loaded game the remote player's name is usually missing.
Why?
A. It is simply a bug in the program. The game can be resumed that way even
without their name.
Q. What does the plus sign on the score card mean?
A. Multiple words formed show a + sign next to the word, with the additional
scored points. A +50 means that a bonus has been credited to a player who
has used all seven tiles on the rack. This is also called a BINGO.
Q. Why do the rules in the game change from time to time?
A. As with the dictionary the Host's rules apply during play. If the host's
rules differ from yours, your rules will be changed during that game. Such
a change will continue until your rules are reset so be sure to adjust your
rules to your liking after such a game.
Q. What does that @ sign mean in front of the nickname?
A. That is to show you who the channel operators are. It's their job to
help you if you have any trouble.
Q. Are Word Generator programs legal?
A. No, they are considered cheating.
Q. Do I have to be on IRC to play networdz?
A. No, you don't have to be in channel to play. Some players meet on
ICQ or any of the other Instant Message type programs. All a host needs
is his opponent(s) IP address and for them to be WFC.
Q. I had two blanks and made a legal word, and it was rejected, why?
A. Both blank tiles letter values must be entered in the same order in
which the blanks occurred in your rack.
Q. I have windows98, and I get an error when I try to host, what do I
do?
A. Use the program file NETWD95 in the program folder to play, instead of
the usual NETWORDZ program file. If you click on an ICON to start the game,
modify the program item properties to use the NETWD95.EXE file to start the
game.
Q. Can I play two games at once?
A. Sure, but you have to be the HOST in at least one of them.
Q. Where can I get help while I am in the IRC channel?
A. Just ask any channel operator for help.
