Agnosticism is based on the concept that there is no specific and logical proof that God exists
Agnostics may hold the belief that a God or Gods may or may not exist because it is not possible for one to have such knowlege.
Deism - the belief in a God who created the universe but does not interact with it.
Theism - the belief in a personal God and or numerous Gods who are creators of the universe, and interact with it.
Atheism - the disbelief of any God or personal Gods.
Agnosticism is sometimes confused with Atheism (no god exists).

Agnosticism is not a religion and it is not necessarely the denial of a higher power. It is merely a philosophical belief that the concept of what or who god is and the creation of the universe icannot be know to us now. Agnosticism is saying that we can not prove either the existance or non-existance of a God or Gods.
The term "agnostic" was coined in 1869 by Thomas Henry Huxley. The term is used to describe those who are skeptical concerning the existence of a higher supreme power (god/gods) as well as other aspects of religion.
The word agnostic comes from the Greek word "a" meaning "without" and the word "gnosis" which means"knowledge".
Among the most famous agnostics (in the original sense) were (English biologist and a leading exponent of Darwin's theory of evolution (1825-1895)) Thomas Henry Huxley, (English natural scientist who formulated a theory of evolution by natural selection (1809-1882)) Charles Darwin, and (English philosopher and mathematician who collaborated with Whitehead (1872-1970)) Bertrand Russell.
