CARTOMANCY

Cartomancy is divination by the use of cards. Normally, cartomancy refers to the use of normal playing cards, however, the use of Tarot and other types of specalized cards is considered a form of cartomancy.

Decks used in cartomancy are of two types:

First is the general use deck, such as ordinary playing cards and the Rider Waite Tarot deck. These decks are generic and suitable for a wide range of questions and are used by most of the cartomancists of today.

The second is the niche deck, where an appeal to a certian type of style, religion, or area of life is made. These decks make up most of the decks available today and can be seen covering every religion and style. Examples of these decks are the Tarot of the Cat People, the Dragon Tarot, the Mythological Tarot, and so on. While these decks can be used for general purposes, their symbology is usually sparce and they tend to focus on the art used in the cards or the beliefs and prejudices of a certian group of people.

Decks that focus on one area of life, such as love, tend to be explotive of a person's passions, wants and needs, and thus are largely ignored my most serious cartomancists.
