NATICK ERASES HALFTIME DEFICIT,
BEATS SUDBURY IN GIRLS CHAMPIONSHIP

NORTON -- Battling back from a 23-19 halftime deficit, the Natick girls Metro West team used a balanced scoring attack to defeat Sudbury, 41-38, and win the second annual Massachusetts Grade 8 State Championship this past weekend (March 21/22) at Wheaton College.

The game was deadlocked at 38-38 with 36 seconds left. Natick killed took the clock down to 17 seconds before Celia Serrette was fouled and made one free throw for a 39-38 lead. After a time-out, Sudbury’s in-bounds pass was misplayed and Natick gained possession again. Natick then iced the game in the final seconds with two free throws by Bridget Furdon.

The victory capped an impressive weekend as Natick outlasted 15 other top Grade 8 teams, winning four times in a span of 30 hours.
