2009 marks the one hundredth birthday of Johnny Mercer, beloved lyricist of Blues in the Night, Dream, Hooray for Hollywood, Satin Doll, Autumn Leaves, Moon River, Come Rain or Come Shine, and Jeepers Creepers, to name but a small number of his many hits, written with composers Harold Arlen, Harry Warren, Henry Mancini, and Duke Ellington, and others.  Performances are November 13 at Follen Community Church in Lexington and November 14 at the Pickman Concert Hall of the Longy School of Music in Cambridge.  Featured performers are American Classics regulars Mary Ann Lanier, Valerie Anastasio, and Heather Peterson, with Robert Humphreville on piano.

New York’s Manhattan Island has been the subject of music song throughout its history.  American Classics will give a musical tour from the Henry Hudson Bridge to the Battery with many stops in between on March 6, 2010 at the Pickman Concert Hall of the Longy School of Music and March 7, 2010 at the Follen Community Church.

In 1918 Irving Berlin contributed to the war cause with his all-soldier revue Yip! Yip! Yaphank!  Since closing at the end of war, the show has not been revived.  American Classics brings back the show as part of their on-going series of revivals of early Irving Berlin shows, and just in time for the Massachusetts April 19 Patriots Day holiday!  Shows are Friday, April 16, 2010 at Follen Community Church, and Sunday, April 18 at the Pickman Concert Hall of the Longy School of Music.
