In November 2006,
Mike Caruso of Ashland underwent a bone marrow transplant at the
Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.A father of three with a
passion for jazz, he hopes to help others battling cancer at a
concert and fundraiser to be held Friday May 9 at 9pm at the Acton
Jazz Cafe.
Accompanied by area jazz musicians, he will perform selections
from his first CD "Songs for Amy." Caruso, who plays upright
bass and guitar, wrote all the music on the recording.
Tickets are $12. Proceeds go toward the purchase of
computers to be used by bone marrow transplant patients who are
spending extended periods of time at the Massachusetts General
Hospital.
As well as raising funds to help patients gain access to
computers, he hopes to explore ways that music can help people
recover.
"Music is a powerful medicine and I strongly feel that it can help
the healing process" said Caruso. "I hope people enjoy the
music and along the way, I wish to raise awareness about bone marrow
transplant as an option for blood cancer treatment and to help
others explore healing the mind and body through art."
