New Orleans Jazz Comes to Taunton June 1 with the Dixie Diehards
TAUNTON – Goodtime music from the birthplace of jazz returns to Steve’s Backstage Pass Sunday, June 1, as the Dixie Diehards Jazz Band brews up a brassy cocktail of traditional New Orleans sounds.
The nine-piece ensemble will be performing 7 p.m. as part of the Sunday Night Jazz series at Steve’s Backstage Pass, 15 School St., Taunton. Admission is $7.
The band, led by Taunton trombonist Jim Kelleher and trumpeter Alan Shapiro, plays early jazz and Dixieland music penned by the likes of W. C. Handy, Fats Waller and Hoagy Carmichael. From “Basin Street Blues” to “Georgia On My Mind,” the Diehards spin out a collection of old-time favorites that never fail to please.
Sunday Night Jazz, hosted by Sun Chronicle music journalist Rick Foster, is the only weekly jazz showcase in the Taunton-Attleboro area.
Steve’s Backstage Pass provides an intimate, family-style atmosphere for a wide range of live music attractions from folk and jazz to rock and roll. Appetizers, dessert items and a full bar are available.
