"This is a great way for young people to make a difference for so many families in need in New Orleans. There is no greater way to share music for such a good cause." Haim Pickholz, piano teacher, Hopkinton, Massachusetts |
After watching the floodwaters saturate New Orleans, and wanting to help, Daniella
S. a budding jazz/blues vocalist, asked her parents if it would be a good idea
for local music students to have a fund-raiser for the victims. Her
parents were skeptical - there had already been a recital last spring. But
they approached music Teacher, Haim Pickholz. Mr. Pickholz
became very excited about the whole idea. He suggested the concert to his
students and received an immediate positive reaction - they hungered to do
it.
For over a month, students from 7 to 20 years old prepared instrumentals and vocals, duets and trios, and even a band, all with a jazz theme. Obviously, Mr. Pickholz is no ordinary music teacher. His passion for jazz became evident during the marvelous, all-day performance of his students. |
