In August Lubec Is Rich In Jazz!
Amanda Carr – Mac Chrupcala – Mike Renzi Jazz Lubec 2009!
Soon! Back soon! Jazz singer Amanda Carr will
return to Lubec, Maine, August 11 and 12 featured with the Mac Chrupcala
Trio along with pianist Mike Renzi of Sesame Street and Mel Torme fame.
Jazz pianist Mac Chrupcala leads this outstanding
group with his long-standing trio featuring bassist Al Bernstein and
drummer Mike Coffey – all hailing from the land of jazz – Newport, Rhode
Island.
Al Bernstein is director of Music and Art for the
Newport, Rhode Island public schools and an upright bass virtuoso – a
jazz player! I think of jazz drums and I think of Mike Coffey – one of
the really nice guys in jazz – and a superb player!
Featured guest Mike Renzi is a noted composer and
pianist. He is a 7 time Emmy Award winner for his work on Sesame Street
– for outstanding music direction and composition. Mike joined Sesame
Street as music director in 2001. He has performed with such greats in
jazz as Mel Torme, Peggy Lee, Ben Webster, Lena Horne and Carol Sloane
to name some
At the concert at the Congregational Christian
Church, 7:30 P.M. to benefit the Lubec Memorial Library, you will hear
two! world-class jazz pianists play two! pianos and Amanda Carr sing
jazz as only she can.
And the next night at Annabell’s Pub more great jazz!
at the Easternmost Jazz Club in the United States.
Amanda, like Mac, needs little introduction to
Lubec. Both have done these gigs before and both have been
wholeheartedly received by the Lubec jazz audience.
Mac Chrupcala is the quintessential jazz pianist –
big chords, melodic, inventive – well respected in New England, New York
City, Key West and Tokyo. Mac is one of those tasked with “keeping jazz
alive.”
“Amanda Carr is a true jazz singer… She sings and
swings with the unaffected confidence of a genuine jazz improviser… I’ve
rarely heard a jazz singer fuse so naturally and pleasurably…,” wrote
Nat Hentoff in The Wall Street Journal.
