TAUNTON, Ma. – The Little Mahrud
Jazz Orchestra, a “little” big band with major league sound,
takes over the stage at Steve’s Backstage Pass Sunday, March 23
bringing the the saucy feel of swing and bop to the Silver City
with their brassy 10-piece ensemble.
Cover is a mere $5 for the 7-9
p.m. show at Steve's Backstage Pass, 15 School St.
Mahrud, headed by Plainville
trumpeter Ernie Baraiolo, is a throwback to the days when big
bands ruled the dance halls as well as the later years when
giants like Dizzie Gillespie and Miles Davis were transforming
jazz with virtuosity and attitude.
The band recently released its
second acclaimed studio album featuring sparkling arrangements
of such tunes as Gillespie’s “A Night In Tunisia” and “Groovin
High” and Chick Corea’s “Open Your Eyes You Can Fly.”
The Little Mahrud Jazz Orchestra
features Baraiolo and Jerry Seeco on trumpet, Bob Holfelder on
trombone, Bill MacGillivray on drums, Jeff Cox on guitar,
Ben
Aldrich, bass, and a sax section composed of Steve Gaudreau,
Mike Crowley, Philippe Cretien and Rich Lebedz.
Sunday Night Jazz at Steve’s
Backstage Pass is hosted by Rick Foster and is the
Taunton-Attleboro area’s only weekly jazz forum. For more
