Novel Jazz brings a Spring warm-up to
SKIDOMPHA

Mark your calendars.  The Novel Jazz Septet will return to Skidompha Public Library, Main Street, Damariscotta on Thursday, 29 May 2008, from 7-9:30 PM for a special evening of jazz in the atrium.  The band is in their fourth year of concerts at Skidompha, which began with the observation that lovers of books often are lovers of jazz.  Moreover, the superb acoustics of Skidompha’s atrium, plus the seating “in the round”, make it a great place to see and hear the music, all in a relaxed, informal atmosphere.

The musicians of this group have been playing straight-ahead jazz for audiences throughout Maine (and beyond) for years, in a multitude of different venues.  Performing in the horn section will be Barney Balch (soprano, alto and tenor trombones) Mike Mitchell (trumpet and flugelhorn) and Bruce Boege (tenor and soprano saxophone).  Powering the rhythm section will be Mickey Felder (piano), Herb Maine (acoustic bass), Chris Rogers (drums), and Dan Clark (guitar).

These musicians play a combination of jazz styles, all held together by a strong dose of swinging rhythms and soulful blues.  Drive-away those mud-season blues!  Come to Damariscotta, have a nice meal, take in some hot jazz that will get those chilly toes tapping!  If you’re a parent, bring the kids to hear some real live jazz!  Admission $10, $5 for young adults 12-18, under 12 accompanied by parent go free.  Call 207-563-5513 during business hours for more information.
