ABOUT THE BANDS:
September 9
Adriel Azure and His Dream Indigo Orchestra
present a broad cross-section of American
nostalgia including jazz from Dixieland to
swing, Delta and jump blues and latin music
with a sassy, sexy flair. The band, which has
received enthusiastic welcomes at such notable
Boston venues as the Paradise and the Beehive,
puts its jive on the line with a lineup that
can include as many as 13 musicians ranging
from violins and steel guitars to horns and
banjos. Brassy female vocals are a feature.
Showtime: 7-9 p.m. Admission: $7.
Sept. 16
The Dixie Diehards Dixieland Band with
Taunton’s own Jimmy Kelleher means jazz from
New Orleans to the Delta with traditional
favorites made famous by Kid Ory, Louis
Armstrong, the Original Dixieland Jazz Band and
others. You’ll want to sing along with “Hello
Dolly” and “Five Feet Two” and sway to the
melody of “Basin Street Blues” or “Midnight In
Moscow” and why not? Sing- and dance-alongs are
a Diehards specialty. Showtime: 7-9 p.m.
Admission: $6.
Sept. 23
Andy Solberg and Friends has at its head easily
one of New England’s most respected jazz
guitaritsts – not to mention a highly-versatile
artist who seems to command equal mastery of
almost every major music genre from blues and
rock to country. An accomplished recording
artist as well as bandleader and session
player, Solberg has been making music in New
England since 1979. The highly-professional
modern jazz lineup includes Ted Decolo on
Reeds, Mark Snyder on bass and Phil Neighbors
on drums. Showtime: 7-9 p.m. Admission: $10.
Sept. 30
The Mike Erickson Band and the Marcus Monteiro
Quartet don’t just play finger-snapping,
head-bobbing jazz and jazz-funk, they lift the
roof off the joint. Erickson and his quartet
startled local audiences with their
sophisticated original songs and instrumental
virtuosity when they appeared at Jazz in June,
and the crowd is hungry for more. Same goes for
saxophonist Monteiro, who discovered the greats
of jazz during junior high school and has been
hooked on the genre ever since. Showtime: 7-10
p.m. Admission: $8.
