7 piece group

Fred Vigorito Leader/cornet, Bill Sinclair on piano, Art Hovey tuba/string bass, Bob Bequillard drums, Russ Whitman reeds, Skip Hughes trombone, Bob Price banjo, Jane Campedelli vocals.   This band has been around since 1975, having it's beginnings at Yale University (with a bit of help from Eli Newberger.)  For over 31 years they played somewhere in Connecticut every Sunday, and can still be heard at various venues in Connecticut like Marisa's, 6540 Main Street in Trumbull, Connecticut.  The band doesn't have a regular trombone player, so they rotate guests, bringing an original feel to the band every time they play.   For the festivals, they bring back our own Jane Campedelli on vocals, and Bob Price banjo.  We wait all year for this.

Janie met the Galvanized Jazz Band here in the 70's and they became friends and family.  She moved to Jacksonville, Florida in 1986, but they "like to bring her back every once in a while".

.The driving force behind the front line, Freddy uses his metal top hat mute.  Art Hovey tuba, acoustic string bass, and Bob Bequillard drums, are the foundation of the band; solid bedrock that keeps gives the front line confidence and freedom to create and improvise.

Janie Campedelli started with I'm Gonna Lock My Heart And Throw Away The Key.  The Galvanized Jazz Band has an energetic, powerful sound.  Power is the tuba and bass sax trading 4's on the 1920 Louis Hot Five Once In A While. They always have a guest trombone, in this case the capable Skip Hughes.  They play at breakneck tempos and are untiring. Only an equally powerful vocalist can maintain that force;

Janie is the spark plug that provides that sizzling, electrical charge.  Glaring at Fred & Skip, she sang "You Gotta See Your Mama Every Night Or You Can't See our Mama At All. She hasn't lost her knack for scatting, and was blazing hot in a duet with Skip Hughes on Your Sweet Mama Is Gonna Be Gone.

Bob Price was here in New England for the summer, all the way from Port Charlotte, Florida (5 hurricanes this year!).  Fred Vigorito introduced him as  the best banjo player in the world! He was phenomenal on two 'Lover' tunes, Lover Come Back To Me and Lover.  He is fabulous! Mind-boggling dexterity on Bye Bye Blues.

Jane and Skip brought down the house with Roll The Patrol Closer To The Curb, Grandmother Can't Step That High. Dynamic pair! We are looking forward to the next Great Traditional Jazz Festival to catch these two and the spirited, energetic Galvanized Jazz Band!

The Galvanized Jazz Band is still playing some Sundays at Aunt Chilada's, 3931 Whitney Ave, Hamden CT and at Marisa's, 6540 Main Street in Trumbull, Connecticut.
