Great Music and Great Food Young Pianist brings band of top players to Ryles Jazz Club. Boston-native Jason Yeager brings his dynamic and original "Trio + 1" to Ryles Jazz Club at 212 Hampshire Street, Inman Square, Cambridge, on Tuesday, May 27th at 8:30 PM, as part of a new series devoted to showcasing top up-and-coming jazz talent. A rising senior at Tufts and New England Conservatory (where he studies with such jazz giants as Danilo Perez and Jerry Bergonzi), Yeager expands what has recently been his regular instrumental format—a trio—to include some of Boston's finest up-and-coming stars, including virtuosic saxophonist Ben Roseth, a Seattle native and fellow Tufts and NEC student (now graduate); Kai Ando on bass; and Matt Rousseau on drums, both of NEC. But don't be fooled by the fact that some of these musicians are still in school – this group's professionalism is evident in their sensitive playing and communication, both with each other and with their audiences. And their originality, creativity, and blend of styles is no mystery: With a variety of groups and projects, these musicians have played in New York, Seattle, South Africa, Panama, Colombia, Argentina and beyond, in addition to various venues throughout New England. Yeager says audiences will hear an eclectic set of original compositions and unique covers of standards and other material. While rooted in the jazz tradition, their original tunes also feature elements of drum'n'bass, South American grooves, and even a Vietnamese Buddhist Chant. Above all, however, Yeager says the band pursues honest expression and interactive group improvisation: "We try to listen to each other as we improvise and take new musical journeys while always playing the song—but no tune is the same way twice." Music-lovers of all ages can also come out and enjoy a delicious dinner and great bar, in addition to great music. Featuring an extensive menu, the club features some of the best ribs in town, among other great entrees prepared by Chef Mitch and his team. The Jason Yeager Trio + 1 will play at Ryles Jazz Club in Inman Square, Cambridge, on May 27th at 8:30 PM. The cover is $8, which can be paid at the door or in advance by visiting www.rylesjazz.com and clicking "buy now". Ryles Jazz Club is wheelchair-accessible and accepts all major credit cards.
