Blue Horizon Jazz Band at the Sherborn Inn, 33 N. Main
St. Sherborn MA (508) 655-9521 $10 admission.
Formed
in 1981, acclaimed for its firm but flexible grasp of the hot and danceable
tradition from
New Orleans
to early swing, the Blue Horizon introduced classic jazz to the Sherborn Inn
in 1989. Stan McDonald’s passionate soprano sax and clarinet,
Jeff Stout’s stirring trumpet and Gerry Gagnon’s gritty trombone
Creolate a pungent front line. Backed by the cooking rhythm of stride
pianist Ross Petot, the simmering guitar/banjo of Eric Baldwin,
the full-bodied string bass of Al Ehrenfried, and the lean drumming of
Dave Bragdon, the members – whose ages span five decades – dig to the
roots of jazz and present a varied and succulent repast, fulfilling their
motto: The Future of the Music with a Past!
