CAREER HISTORY
2005 to date: Writer and consultant, self-employed. Created
development campaign for
Conservation Fisheries, a nonprofit organization. The campaign includes
web site, press kit, brochure, newsletter, video and related fundraising
tools.
2000 to 2005: Community Relations Manager, Barnes & Noble
Booksellers, Knoxville. Managed all aspects of public outreach, including
interaction with educators, community leaders, politicians, nonprofit
institutions and business leaders, as well as the general public. Made
repeated television appearances, spoke to community groups, and hosted all
in-store events, such as lectures, book signings and book promotions.
Created a community campaign, Back the Stacks!, to improve Tennessee public
school libraries. The campaign was adopted by all Barnes & Noble stores in
Tennessee, and resulted in over $100,000 in book donations to public
schools.
1997 to 2000: Writer and consultant, self-employed. Founded the
American Marinelife Dealers Association,
a trade organization that promotes sustainaible practices in the
international aquarium trade. Participated in the creation of the
Marine Aquarium Council, as a
consultant specializing in aquarium industry issues for the World Wildlife
Fund.
