The following is a walkthrough of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. After the opening movie, press start, and select a file. Enter your name. Now click on the file and your game begins.
I. Getting to the first dungeon
A. Get the Shield
a. You wake up in a bed, and someone named Marin talks to you. She explains that she found you by the shore. Get out of bed and talk to the man in the room, Tarin. He will give you your shield!
B. Get the Sword
a. Go to the Southwest corner of this new village. Continue South to the beach. There will be enemies. You need to dodge them. When you see your sword, it will be behind a sea urchin. Push the sea urchin with your shield. Grab your sword (don't worry, the game didn't freeze) and go where the owl told you to go a second ago.

C. The Woods of Mystery
a. Go North, instead of South from the Southwest corner of the village. Eventually, you will reach the woods of mystery. Continue through the woods until you find a log you can walk into. Do so to find a cave. Go through the cave to find a mushroom. You have to leave the woods now, but through a different exit. It is the East exit. Go there. Continue on the path until you find the potion shop. Give the lady inside the mushroom. She'll give you the magic powder. Return to the forest. Do you remember passing a raccoon? Sprinkle the powder on him. He will go coo-coo for cocoa puffs for a bit, and then turn into Tarin! But, if you don't know, the raccoon was actually using magic to stop you from getting the key you needed. Go North to get it. Return to the town.

D. Entering Tail Cave
a. Start as if you were going to the beach, but take a turn at a sign. Continue along this path until you reach Tail Cave.
II. Dungeon 1: Tail Cave
A. If you follow the path below, you should beat Tail Cave. (Sorry, I'm too lazy to put it in paragraph format)
a. Up, defeat enemies, switch, chest (key), right, defeat enemies, chest (Dungeon Map), up, defeat enemies, right, up, defeat enemies so that all patterns match, chest (Stone Beak), down, left, left, enemy, chest (Key), left, enemy, chest (20 Rupees), up, up, right, upper left, push farthest left block right, left, SHIELD THE INSTANT YOU ENTER!!!, defeat enemies by turning over w/shield, stairs, left, up ladder, up, up, chest (Item: Feather), return to room w/20 rupee chest, down, defeat keese, right, right, up, right, jump over hole for right, (miniboss) jump over giant roller and attack him (repeat), entrance warp, left, defeat enemies, key, left, enemies, dodge fireballs, chest (compass), right, right, miniboss warp, left, left, left, upper right, up, jump hole, block, up stairs, left, chest (Nightmare's Key), return to miniboss room, up, up, (Boss) attack flashing tail and dodge his frantic raid with the feather (repeat), heart container, up, Mystical Instrument #1: Full Moon Cello.
III. Getting to Dungeon 2
A. Rescuing BowWow
a. Return to the main city. Two kids will inform you that Moblins have done something horrible. Investigate this. Go to the house where the chain chomp was. The Lady inside will tell you that the Moblins took the chain chomp. Return to the mysterious forest. Go to the exit where you left to go to the potion shop. But this time, jump over the holes and go North. Continue along this path until you find a cave next to an owl. Enter it. Defeat all the Moblins inside. When you reach the King Moblin, dodge his arrows until he has a mental "episode" and charges at you. He will be stunned, and attack him now. Repeat. Continue through the cavern to find BowWow. Retun him to MeowMeow to find that she wants you to take him on a walk. Go to the Swamp. The things that were blocking your path will be eaten by BowWow, revealing a path to dungeon 2.
IV. Dungeon 2: Bottle Grotto
A. Follow the instructions below exactly to go through the dungeon.
a. Up, torches, right, enemies, key, down, enemy, chest (compass), up, right, enemies, key, left, left, left, torches, enemies, up, torches, jump, enemies, chest (stone beak), return to right of original torch room, right, hit crystal switch, down, crystal switch, chest (key), enemy, right, jump across platforms for switch, jump, chest (key), jump around for up, right, enemies, up, push blocks to center, stairs, continue through passage, up stairs, up, (miniboss) attack whenever vulnerable, right, up, avoid vortex, chest (dungeon map), up, chest (20 rupees, left, torches, enemies while torches are lit, chest (Item: Power Bracelet), right, right, crystal switch, continue right, crystal switch, chest (key), crystal switch, right, right, down, enemies (bunny first, then bat, then skeleton), chest (nightmare's key) up, right, enemies (defeat bunnies w/pots), stairs, continue through passage, grab pot and stand on platform, up ladder, jump over holes, up, (boss) Dodge all attacks until you can hit him while he is in the bottle. Then he will be stunned and vulnerable to tossing against the wall (repeat until next step comes to place) when his bottle shatters, he will be "Hopping Mad". Simply swing your sword and mutilate him. Don't fall for his mind tricks. Continue into the next room for the instrument.
