NEW CD!  Bruce Mosher’s New Jersey Private Express Companies

The New Jersey Postal History Society is pleased to announce the immediate availability of a new informative CD entitled “New Jersey Private Express Companies” that documents the recent work of Society member and Express Historian, Bruce H. Mosher. The majority of the content was previously published as 15 reports in the NJPH, the Society’s quarterly journal, during 2003 to 2007. Notwithstanding, color images have now been substituted for many of the original monochromatic illustrations and a significant addendum of previously unpublished, New Jersey express history has been added. This CD contains 235 pages that are dedicated to express information plus a detailed Index and Bibliography are provided.

The information in this CD represent one of the largest bodies of historical knowledge that has ever been assembled and published in one volume concerning private express company operations and their historical papers which are indigenous to a single state in the U.S. Over 120 expresses that did business within New Jersey between 1844 and 1918 are identified and historically explored. More than 35 express receipts and bills of lading used by these companies are illustrated and more than 100 of their express labels are depicted and characterized. In addition, approximately 55 pertinent covers that were contemporarily posted and/or privately carried by expresses are reported and pictured. Various private-express corner-cards from the period are also presented.

This CD is formatted in Portable Document Format (.pdf file) and can be opened and read on any computer that contains Adobe Reader application-software (available free from Adobe). The cost of this CD is very reasonably priced at $10.00 to members of the NJPHS, and $15.00  to all nonmembers (postpaid to the US and Canada).  Payment may be made by check or money order to “NJPHS” and sent to Jean R. Walton, Secretary, NJPHS, 125 Turtleback Road, Califon, NJ 07830-3511, or by PayPal to NJPostalHistory@aol.com (please indicate in either case that it is for the Mosher CD).  A PayPal invoice, or information on mailing rates abroad, may be requested by emailing Jean Walton at NJPostalHistory@aol.com.
