City Council Meeting – January 6, 2008

PRESENT:  Mayor Williams, Councilmember Russell, Councilmember Jacobson, Councilmember Freesmeier and Councilmember Theede
ABSENT:  None

CALL TO ORDER.
Motion by Councilmember Theede, seconded by Councilmember Jacobson to appoint Thomas H. Niedzwiecki as interim clerk of the City of St. Mary’s Point.  Motion passed unanimously.

Interim City Clerk, Tom Niedwiecki, swore the new Council members and Mayor into office

Mayor Williams called the meeting to order.  The interim City Clerk took roll call.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE.
The Pledge was recited by everyone in attendance.

APPROVAL OF CONSENT AGENDA.
Motion by Councilmember Jacobson, seconded by Councilmember Theede to approve the Consent agenda, including the December meeting minutes and the January agenda.  Motion passed unanimously.

MAYOR’S MESSAGE
Mayor Williams reviewed current projects and expectations of the SMP City Council going forward in 2009.  

PUBLIC CONCERNS.
There were no public concerns at this time.

SHERIFF’S REPORT.
There was not a Deputy at the meeting to give a report. The issue of infrequent visits by deputies was discussed.

PLANNING COMMISSION / PLANNING.
Nothing to report.

2009 LIST OF APPOINTEES
The council reviewed and revised the city commission appointments.

2009 LIST OF FEES
The fees schedule remained unchanged from 2008.  

STANDING COMMITTEES – UPDATES.
Fire District
Councilmember Theede reported the events of the last meeting.  Mayor Williams discussed compensation for reporting to calls on the 94 corridor.
Cable Commission
Nothing to report.
Middle St. Croix WMO
Nothing to report
LSCV Alliance
Nothing to report.

CITY STAFF REPORTS.
Building Inspector
Nothing to report.

City Engineer
John Parotti, City Engineer, discussed the status of roads and upcoming recommendations for projects.

City Attorney
Cameron Kelly, City Attorney, reviewed the snowmobile ordinance, WMO regulations and reported on the Haslund status.

City Treasurer
Tom Niedzwiecki gave his financial report for the month of December, 2008.

Motion by Councilmember Theede, seconded by Councilmember Jacobson to pay the bills with checks numbered 3259 through 3285, and the 6 electronic payments. Motion passed 5-0.

E.)    City Clerk
        The City Clerk had nothing additional to report.

COUNCIL REPORTS.
Mayor
Mayor Williams reported receiving several complaints regarding plowing and damage.  Reminder that property should not be on the right away to avoid damage.

Councilmember Russell
Nothing to report.

2.    Councilmember Jacobson
Councilmember Jacobson extended a compliment to the City Engineer regarding WMO Water Management Report.  Councilmember Jacobson also indicated the new e-mail addresses on the web site.  

Councilmember Freesmeier
Nothing to report.

Councilmember Theede
Nothing to report.
