A Practical Guide For Usability Testing

Norene Malaney's Independent Study Web Site

Welcome to my website. This site was a site that I created in the Spring of 2001 while working on my Independent Study project for Villanova University in order to obtain my Masters degree. Feel free to browse the site. Comments are always welcome.

Usability Testing is a series of tests that measure the usability of an interface, system, or product. A company who is developing a piece of software will usually perform usability testing during the stages of development to see how usable their current software design is. The tests are usually performed on a representative group of users.

My Independent Study project entailed learning about the intricacies of Usability Testing. I have developed a “Step-by-Step Guide” on how to perform Usability Testing. The guide starts with the early stages of questions to ask when deciding on what types of usability tests should be performed. Each type of usability test is explored in detail. The end of the guide discusses the end stages of creating and finalizing the Usability Report that summarizes the results of the Usability Testing.

During the development of the guide, I performed informal usability tests to provide me with some practical experience.
