Nick's Story

When a child gets sick, injured or becomes disabled, a family relies on hope, fortitude, dedication, love and financial resources to recover and restart their lives. A few years ago Nick Messenger was hit by a car while trying to cross the street. From that moment forward, he began the long, uphill battle against death, despair and disability. Nick's doctors had given him a grim chance of survival. They thought he may never awaken from a coma. And when he did, they said he would never walk again. Every time doubt and despair showed it's face Nick beat the odds and took another step towards recovery. With love, courage and lots of therapy, Nick began to walk again. Now 3 years after his injury Nick continues to improve and excel where others have "maxed out" or reached their potential. Nick has recovered beyond the hopes and dreams of his doctors, therapists and family. Endless hours and countless dollars have been spent to give Nick the chance to get his life back. But not all kids are born into a circle of love and support like Nick was. More and more, children with disabilities are restricted by limited financial means, family crisis and a lack of medical support. Families are forced to make do with the resources available to them and sometimes there are none. NMF was organized to be that resource. NMF offers assistance to families in need as they struggle to support their loved one.
