Mailing out a 'paper' newsletter is becoming increasingly expensive. Every month the Norden News is posted on-line before it goes to the postoffice. We are currently compiling a list of members who may prefer to receive this publication via email. If you wish to participate, send your email address to cbizzley@msn.com and I will send you the link (no large downloads or attachments) when the next newsletter is available. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2006 NORDEN 2 DIRECTORY Members please see Christine or David Beasley for your copy and please contact Christine or David Beasley with any corrections or updates at: cbizzley@msn.com or 253-564-6658 or 221 Alameda Ave Fircrest, WA 98466 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- COMMUNITY AND FRATERNAL ACTIVITIES TRACKING PROCESS Please turn in your volunteer hours to Joann Thompsen monthly. Joann has forms available to easily track your volunteering. You can hand her your hours; or mail or email your hours to her at: Joann Thompsen 215 Alameda Ave Fircrest, WA 98466 j_thompsen@yahoo.com Thanks to all members who have been turning in their volunteer hours! Remember this helps to maintain our not for profit status as a lodge. FOOD BANK Thanks to all those who have donated to the food bank! Please consider bringing more as the need is great and increasing as some groups hosting food banks have stopped doing so. Items needed: non-perishable food including baby food; paper products such as bath tissue, paper towels and Kleenex; and funds to purchase items in short supply. The donations are turned over to a food bank in the area. Every 4 weeks a member's church participates in hosting the food bank. Items can be dropped in the box outside the library anytime you come to the lodge. And remember, you get an extra number when counting off for the business meeting attendance drawing for donating food at the monthly business meeting. If you prefer to give funds, just turn them in to Grace Bredeson. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NORDEN 2 OFFICERS 2007 President: Vince Williams ……………………..253-732-6884 vincewilliams@teamsters313.org (private work cell phone) can be given out Vice President: Kathy Fry……………………...253-565-4583 kathyfry@hotmail.com Treasurer: Mariann Fletcher…………………….253-752-8062 mfsbakin@aol.com Secretary: Joann Thompsen…………………….253-564-4564 j_thompsen@yahoo.com Assistant Secretary: Liv Engen………………....253-752-9325 livengen@netzero.com Counselor: Cliff Magnussen…………………….253-752-8686 cmag@prodigy.net Social Director: Alyce Fletcher…………………253-759-2108 sewinfool6@aol.com Assistant Social Director: Sissel Barrett………..253-847-8191 donbarrett238@wmconnect.com Cultural Director: Earl Mikkelson…………...…253-862-4509 mikkelse@mindspring.com Foundation Director: Grace Bredeson…………..253-564-8960 no email Sports Director: Robert Stephenson…………….253-565-2893 tradarcher@seanet.com Librarian: Alice Stephenson…………….………253-565-2893 blindbooks@juno.com Marshall 1: Sherrod Hitch……………………….253-564-5522 sherrodmhitch@clearwire.net Marshall 2: Sverre Thorbjorsen…………………253-472-5839 sverre@att.net Co-Editors: Christine & David Beasley………...253-564-6658 cbizzley@msn.com Greeter 1: Kay Booth…………………………...253-564-5267 no email Greeter 2: Judy Gullander……………………….253-584-6299 no email Historian: Dennis Dhaese……………………….253-863-0509 appraiser5@qwest.net Musician: Iona Dhaese………………………….253-845-5446 dhaeseiona@yahoo.com Publicity Director: Don Anderson (temporary)...253-759-5028 andersontacoma@aol.com Adopt-a-School Director: Phyllis Melton………253-564-8636 no email Assistant Musician: Marilyn Carlson…………...253-564-7935 mdcbutrfly@aol.com Sunshine: Carla Skog.…………………………...253-761-2663 carlaskog@aol.com Sunshine:Linda Skog…………………………....253-383-3536 lindskog@yahoo.com Webmaster: Janet Smith………………………....253-841-4157 norden2@hotmail.com Trustee: Gary Yost 2005-2007 term…………….253-564-7276 gwyost@juno.com Trustee: Alfred Hjelseth 2006-2008 term……….253-759-3893 no email Trustee: Tom Harris 2007-2009 term…………....253-922-5989 no email NORMANNA HALL ASSOCIATION President: Russ Hafterson……………………….253-845-0309 haftercr@msn.com Vice President: Justin Towne…………………....253-857-7015 no email Treasurer: Don Barrett…………………………...253-847-8191 donbarrett238@wmconnect.com Secretary: Marilyn Carlson ……………………..253-564-7935 mdcbutrfly@aol.com Cliff Magnussen…………………………………253-752-8686 cmag@prodigey.net Vince Williams…………………………………..253-732-6884 vincewilliams@teamsters313.org (private work cell phone) can be given out Larry Hayden…………………………………….253-759-2814 no email OTHER IMPORTANT NUMBERS WEBSITES Normanna Hall………………………………….253-627-9012 Norden 2 Lodge, Tacoma Trollhaugen Lodge……………………………...590-656-9997 www.norden2.org Sons of Norway International…………………...800-945-8851 Sons of Norway, District 2 Sons of Norway Insurance: http://www.district2sonsofnorway.org/ Regional, Sverre Aasgaarden…………….800-877-4299 Sons of Norway, International Local, Rose Stevens……………………...800-210-0240 www.sofn.com . ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Norden 2 members, It's an honor to serve as the new President of Norden 2. Many people have made today possible and I would like to take time to say thank you: District President Erlene Stevenson special thanks for gratiously taking the time to do our installation. Councilor Cliff Magnussen for your 2 years as president and your encouragement to be president as well as all your help so far and I'm sure into the future.  Kathy Fry for stepping up and taking the position of vice-president as your knowledge will also be of great help to this rooky president. Karen Aanes and Thor for volunteering to prepare the reception and advice. Eric and Quinn Balstad who on short notice step-ped up as installation marshalls. Don Anderson for all his support and help. To all the members who have offered support and help to your new president.  I am impressed by how many of you have approached me already. That shows me the strength of our Lodge. To my family and friends for being here to support me; and especially my wife Judith for not divorc-ing - I mean for supporting me when I accepted this opportunity. As with many organizations today we face many challenges to not only maintain where we are, but also to grow and remain a viable organization into the future; therefore we must increase our mem-bership.  How we will accomplish this I'm not to-tally sure but on this board we have some new ideas that we are going to try.  Some will succeed and some will not but we are committed to try. An important part will be for the members to give us feedback and your ideas also. If you look on the walls, this lodge has a great history and this board and these officers are committed to attaining these goals; but understand that without your support we cannot acheive them, for we are only as strong as the members who support us. Again thank you for your support and I look forward to an eventful and successful year. Fraternally, Vincent Williams ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- REMINDER Scholarship Applications for consideration by Norden 2 must be submitted by April 1st Submit to: Vincent Williams 2440 S. Steele Street, #311 Tacoma, WA 98405 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO OUR VOLUNTEERS Well we had another very successful breakfast on Sunday February 11.  I don't have the exact numbers at the time I write this but it was between 330 to 350 paying customers which is great and I would like to give a special thank you to all the volunteers on this day as it turned out to be harder than most. We had a shortage of volunteers plus heavy volume causing most people to work 8 or more hours rather than three or four and some customers becoming upset at delays of their food arriving or getting seconds because we could not keep up. As you read this it must be becoming obvious that there is more to this article than just thanking the volunteers and you would be right. Currently the average age of the volunteers is over 60 and many are in their late 70's and early 80's. These people are so dedicated that they refuse to stop even to the detriment of their health as happened this month and we had to call the paramedics.  Next month several of our key people will be out of town and we have an urgent need of new volunteers to not only fill in for those that will be gone but more importantly to keep the shifts to only 4 hours per person which means we need 40 volunteers at the breakfast.  As members of this Lodge would you please consider volunteering for 2 shifts of 4 hours this and every year so we may continue the breakfast and socials.  As I mentioned earlier in this article we had a few upset (down right rude) customers which with the work load adds stress to the volunteers.  If you observe some bad behavior, please remind them that these people are volunteers and words of kindness and a little patience go a lot farther to solving any problems. When we have a complete crew we actually have a good time working and it ensures that the volunteers will look forward to the next event. We all seem to have very busy schedules these days, but 2 shifts of 4 hours a year is possible if it's planned into one's schedule.  So please call Alyce Fletcher 253-759-2108, Jackie Towne 253-857-7015, Don Barret 253-847-8191, or myself to volunteer.  Vincent C.
