Taylor Northcut has been recorded as having numerous names.
Most of the errors are caused by the difficulty in reading old Census and other records.
He has been called Edward Taylor, J. Taylor, J.T., E.T., I.T. and just plain old Taylor.
I have assembled some documents for you to view to see if you can figure it out.
1850 Census, Tishomingo County, Mississippi
It looks simple. It is J. Northcut. But look at the name "John"
right above his name and see how the "J" is formed.

1850 Census, Tishomingo County, Mississippi
If it is not a "J", Then it must be a "T".
Look at the "T" in the lower entry for brother Thomas. It is different from Taylor's.
1880 Census, Van Zandt County, Texas
It must be a "T" you say.
He is recorded in the 1880 Census as Taylor Northcut

If it is not a "J" and it is not a "T"
Then maybe it is an "I"
1870 Census, Kaufman County, Texas
If you guessed it was an "I" then YOU ARE RIGHT !
ISAAC TAYLOR NORTHCUT
is his full given name.
