Tools List:
Nice set a wrenches
Spring compressor
Magnetic pickup tool- A MUST HAVE!!
Torque Wrench
Allen Key Set
Threadlocker
Moly-Graph high pressure grease
Nitril gloves. because this job is messy!
All parts in packages
Despite other opinions, I really liked
this compressor. Fit well even on #8 cylinder and was very easy to use. no
slippage at all. just keep threads well oiled.
LT4 spring next to the new rocker and stud
Ram air, alternator, and valve covers removed.
Stockers vs LT4 Springs
TopDeadCenter for each cylinder!
from shbox.com very
easy. Bets way to keep valves from falling into the cylinder. Remove the plugs
and use compressed air are you crazy?
#8 it can be done!!
dab of grease holds keys in place very well while decompressing the springs.
Seals fit snug and pressed right on.
Old seal vs Viton 400 degree seal
I used the spring compressor's fingers to
grab the old seals and they each popped right out. the new seals pressed on with
my thumb. no install tool needed.
compressing #2 intake valve spring
3/8ths vs 7/16ths studs.
longer 7/16 still fit fine in head even without using guideplates.
7/16th passenger side, w/ threadlock
3/8 driver side, what a difference!
All springs in, torquing 7/16ths studs to 50 ft/lbs!
Make sure too oil bath all new parts 20mins or more!
I did springs too but have no pic
tightening locknut
Thought covers would fit but no. Few cuts on intake side of
the covers and
viola! perfect fit!
I used shbox's method #1 and was cake work!
brought #1 to TDC (firing) tuned all closed valves, then cranked 360* so #6 was
TDC (firing) and adjusted the rest. 1/2 turn preload. worked perfectly.

All done! no clicks or ticks!
This mod took me about 4-5 hours from start to finish and had literally no hang-ups. Nothing broke and all parts fit perfectly. Amazing, I know especially for an LT1! The car started right up after I hooked up the battery again.
So far I've been driving for 2 days and put 70 miles on the car and haven't heard a single tick! Noticeable difference! and LOUDER! sounds more choppy and badass. I haven't really nailed the gas though just to give the new rockers and springs a chance to break in.
I got all my info on the swap from the camaroz28 forums and
shbox.com.
thanks to all who answered my questions!
I plan on making the site alot smoother and put alot more detail in the captions. Just wanted to get something posted because I know this is a common mod.
enjoy!
any questions? sick97ss on camaroz28.com forums
