KINGDOM CHRONICLES, 7556-7558

Notes from the Realms in Exile

HAM subjects mourned the passing, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, on March 17, 2005 (Yestare, 7557) of The Rt. Hon. Dame André Norton, Countess of Forlindon, Baroness Forlond, Dame of the Most Noble Order of the Flame of Anor. Lady Forlindon, who was 93, was a prolific author who had been an early patron of the Worshippfull Companie of Freemen of the Shire; she would later co-author two novels with the Countess of Harlindon, Lady Steward of the Household. Among her many honors as a writer were those of being the first woman to be chosen a Grand Master of Fantasy and a Grand Master of the Science Fiction Writers of America.

The once nearly ignored Commission on Population Enhancement (set up in 7533) seems to be having some delayed effect. Her Grace, the Duchess of Belfalas, Lady President, introduced a new citizen, Mr. Quincy Nang, to the Council-General at its Ivanneth meeting, while His Grace the Duke of Numenor, Regent, welcomed two new citizens to the Kingdoms in early Girithron. Pictured below, from left to right, Mr. Wyatt Wilson, His Grace, and Mr. Neil Bansal.

Attentive readers of The New Yorker for August 8, 2003 (24 Urui 7556) noted a lengthy Letter to the Editor by The Rt. Hon. and Learned the Baroness Glanduin, Lady Chief Justice (and Adjunct Professor of Patent Law in the University of Michigan Law School), correcting errors in an article, published the previous month, on, surprisingly, patent law.

In further news from Michigan, The Rt. Hon. the Baron Glanduin, HAM Captain of Ships and Seneschal of the Duchy of Numenor, the Ottto Laporte Professor of Physics in the University of Michigan, was elected to the United States' National Academy of Sciences on April 20, 2004 (3 Lothron 7557).

And, to wrap up, the Hon. Caroline Bucksbaum celebrated her Bat Mitzvah on 25 Girithron 7558 (9 Kislev 5766).

Further south in the Regent's Palatine Duchy, Sir Lewis Kopp, KFA, Loremaster and Wizard to the Regent, having returned to live in Osnumenor (where he and the Regent began the Restoration some 35 years ago), is serving as ad-interim Castellan of the ducal home city.

The Marquess of Meneltarma, Lord Keeper of the Privy Seal (and sometime principal of the Omnibus Retail Corporation), is CEO and Managing Partner of Unlimited Publishing, LLC. His Lordship's company has published two books by His Grace the Regent, Falconry and Other Poems and Rough Magicke (a fantasy novel set at a fictitious military school with its own website, www.annandalemilitary.com).

The Hon. Caroline Lee Massey was graduated from Batesville High School, Batesville, Arkansas, in Norui, 7558, and has since matriculated at Millsaps College, Jackson, Mississippi.

His Grace the Duke of Numenor, Regent, has maintained a more extensive travel schedule than usual over the last several months, visiting:

His Grace also toured England and Scotland in Urui of 7558 with the Secretary of State and Lord Hunnewell, including a visit to the international Tolkien Convention in Birmingham, attended by a number of HAM subjects and friends of the Restoration, including Dame Nancy Martsch, DE, who presided over a round table discussion in which the Secretary of State took part. Most recently, in Narbeleth, His Grace and Lord Meneltarma attended in Chicago a reunion of Culver Academies classes from the early 70s; also present were two other members of the shadowy Fellows of the Galadhrim (who all rank as "Prince of Gondor, Prince of Arnor, and Prince of Laurelindorinan"), Mark Thompson Leonard and Philip Hopkins Stibolt.

His Grace the Regent has been added to the 60th Anniversary Edition of Who's Who in America, published in October, 2005 (Narbeleth, 7558).
