Morgan's pesky misstatement:
"Neither Duncan's father or his grandfather had any brothers, but his
grandfather had two
sisters. The younger, my paternal grandmother, produced one son, my
father. The elder
sister also produced a son, however; and he married the Princess Annalind
of Meara."

As it turns out, Morgan doesn't know his family history as well as he thinks he does. Review this chart:
The corrected statement should read:
"Neither Duncan's father or his grandfather
had any brothers, but his great-grandfather
had two
sisters. The younger, my paternal grandmother,
produced one son, my father. The elder
sister had a daughter,
however; and she married the Princess Annalind of Meara's son*."
In less colorful terms: Neither Duncan's father (Jared McLain) or his grandfather (Andrew McLain) had any brothers, but his great-grandfather (Tairchell McLain) had two sisters. The younger, my paternal grandmother (Madonna McLain), produced one son, my father (Kenneth Morgan). The elder sister [? McLain (Fergus MacFaolan's second wife)] had a daughter (Aude MacFaolan), however, and she married the Princess Annalind of Meara's son (Judael Quinnell-Kincaid)."
Note: It could be said that the MacFaolan's have a claim on the succession of Duncan's Cassan and Kierney titles unless Colman MacFaolan is the product of Fergus MacFaolan's first marriage. Since this question isn't yet answered, there is no way to know. But I suspect that the MacFaolan's aren't in the succession because that would make a major point of The Bishop's Heir and The King's Justice moot since the novels are as much about the succession of Cassan and Kierney as they are about the bid for Mearan independence.
