"Be like the bird, who halting in his flight

On limb too slight,

Feels it give way beneath him, yet sings

Knowing he has wings."

-Victor Hugo, writer (1802-1885)

FIELD TRIP!!!

Please read!!!

June 21st field trip to Harrell's Prairie in Forest with the Jackson AS.  Trip will be led by Judy Shearer, a biologist with the Corps of Engineers.  We will meet them at the Prairie at 9 am.  Anyone wanting to ride with me (Nancy Donald), give me a call at 601-527-1746.  We'll meet at Trinity at 7:45 and leave the church by 8.  Harrel's Prairie is a remnant of MS blackland prairie located in Bienville National Forest.  June is prime wildflower viewing.  We should also see prairie warblers, indigo buntings, blue grosbeaks, yellow-breasted chats and common yellowthroats and possibly quail.  Bring sunscreen, water, snack lunch, insect repellent, binox and the enthusiasm to endure sweltering hot MS summer weather just for the sheer joy of being outside!

Our thoughts and prayers go to the family of R.L. Richardson, president of the Okatibbee Creek Audubon Society, who recently passed away.

Check the SIGHTINGS page for new birds and questions about hummers.  And what's this? cardinal.jpg (136266 bytes)

The GBBC results are in.   Please go online and read all about it!  OCAS' Projects page has a brief summary of Howard Malone's sightings.  Anybody else want to post?

The Okatibbee Creek Audubon Society held the annual Christmas Bird Count on January 5, 2008.  I've posted the new totals on the Projects page.  You might like comparing the list to last year's, so I'm leaving it up, too.goldfinches.JPG (63929 bytes)
