Rev. Thomas P. Steinmetz, Fr. Tom was a police officer with the Manchester Police Department from 1978 to 2002. At the time of his retirement from the force, he was serving as a Detective Lieutenant. Raised in the Latin Church, Fr. Tom discovered Our Lady of the Cedars Church in 1976. By 1979, he and Kathy had become regular, active members of our parish. After making their first formal petition to join the Melkite Church in 1980, they formally became Melkites in 1985. As a layman, Fr. Tom was always active in parish life. He was a member of the parish young adult group, The Rising Twenties, from 1981 to 1986, served on the Parish Council from 1983 to 1993 (including a stint as Parish Council President) and taught religious education for several years. He has also been the parish religious education coordinator. Fr. Tom attended the Melkite Diocese's Deacon Formation Program from 1990 to 1993, and was ordained to the diaconate January 23, 1994 at Our Lady of the Cedars by Bishop Nicholas Samra. While serving as deacon, he obtained a Master of Arts degree in Theology from Notre Dame College in 2002. To the great joy of all the parishioners and friends of Our Lady of the Cedars Church, our longtime deacon, Thomas Steinmetz, was ordained a priest in Rabweh, Lebanon on July 6, 2002, by the hand of Archbishop Salim Ghazal, BSO. Not long thereafter he was made pastor of Our Lady of the Cedars Church. |
