Aussie Gold (TM) Orchid Mix is a ready-to-use unique combination of Diatomite and other organic media beneficial to orchids. It allows for excellent air penetration and has outstanding capilliary action, allowing water and micronutrients to feed the roots, encourage foliage growth and promote healthy blooms. It is non-toxic, pH neutral and high in silica. It does not deteriorate or break down and cannot be overwatered. Diatomite is a sedimentary rock primarily composed of the fossilized remains of microscopic unicellular algae having cell walls impregnated with silica. Over the millennia, the diatoms have been compressed to create a rock which has been found to be very effective as a growing medium. Diatomite consists of approximately 90% silicon dioxide, with the remainder of its contents being elemental minerals, which are essential for plant growth. Additionally Diatomite acts as a natural repellent to slugs, snails and other pests. Horticultural grade Diatomite, when mixed with other tested organic ingredients, makes Aussie Gold (TM) Orchid mix the definitive orchid growing medium. Because it is long lasting and reusable, it is economical for use with all your orchids.
