The Characters of Bloom County

Milo's grandfather, the Major, ran the Bloom County Boarding House where most of the characters lived. Milo was the Junior Intern at the Bloom Beacon/Picayne newspaper.

Opus and Bill the Cat were perpetual running mates in hopeless bids for the Presidential election every 4 years. Opus, as the Vice Presidential candidate, was relied upon to do the majority of the campaigning, as Bill was often comatose, in drug rehab, in jail, or various other adventures, such as having Donald Trump's brain implanted in him or joining the Rajneeshees. Opus took adventures of his own, including a trip to Antarctica to search for his mother and a trip to the Mary Kay Laboratories to search for his mother.

Binkley was Opus' original owner, before he really got a personality and became the main character. Binkley is famed for his anxiety closet and for waking his father in the middle of the night.

Steve is Bloom County's local frat boy, male chauvinist lawyer. He defended an ax murderer and once sued Santa Claus. He won the Mister America Pageant (with a little help). He spent a great deal of time with his brain transreversed by aliens. He was much more pleasant that way and his hair was permed. But I think this is the Steve we all prefer to remember...

Portnoy - Woodchuck or Groundhog? Originally referred to as a woodchuck on the occasion of two of his birthdays, Portnoy was later classified as being a groundhog, which caused Hodge Podge a great deal of concern learning that his best friend was a "pig". Portnoy was a long time crew member of the USS Enterpoop.

Hodge Podge is Portnoy's best friend. He secretly had an affair with Rosebud which resulted in her pregnancy and the birth of 64 Jackabasselopes. He was the drummer for the heavy metal band DeathTöngue.
