A TRIBUTE TO MICHAEL ZASLOW

PREFACE: Sadly, actor, singer, composer Michael Zaslow lost his battle with ALS on December 6, 1998. Still, his battle continues, and so do those who remember his courage and strength. I've decided to leave this page as originally written. The fight to cure ALS rages on. Please, click on the links below, after you read about Michael's personal efforts, to learn more about ZazAngels and this caring man.

Below are three faces of Michael -- first as "Roger Thorpe", villain extraordinaire on "The Guiding Light"; next, a publicity photo of Michael with some GL castmates; and finally as my personal favorite, composer/spy "David Renaldi" on "One Life to Live".

Love or hate his characters, Michael has always brought a healthy zest to whatever show he was a part of. He is a very talented performer, who, like the rest of us, is all too human, and thus it was, that a few months ago I was saddened to learn that Michael had been afflicted by some strange yet unknown disease which had affected his speech.

Amazingly, this veteran performer who had done so much to make the soap "The Guiding Light" a success was shunned by the show and its sponsors, Proctor and Gamble. Not only that, but the pursuant legal entanglements forced Michael to turn down a recurrence as "David" on "One Life to Live" which the producers of great vision there had the foresight and courage to offer him the chance to play the part with the speech impediments as part of the story.

Fortunately, a settlement has now been reached. Applause goes in part to the fans of Michael Zaslow, who launched a staunch campaign on the actor's behalf. Known as United in Support of Michael Zaslow, fans lent their good will and cheer to Michael while also being extremely vocal to GL producers and advertisers, primarily Proctor and Gamble.

Please take a few moments to visit the USMZ site where you can learn more about the group, its goals, and the latest on Michael and his situation, both health-wise and as a performer.

For the record, it has been determined that Michael suffers from Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a progressive disease of the nervous system. The cause is not known and there is no cure, although progress is being made on both fronts. ALS is also known as Lou Gehrig's disease after the famous baseball player who died from it.

UPDATE! SUCCESS! UPDATE!

Michael and P&G have come to an agreement, and even better, Michael is about to return to "One Life to Live" in the role of "David Renaldi". Read more about it at the USMZ site! WTG Michael!
