Business Meeting - These meetings are held at Brewery Becker in Brighton MI and are the business meetings of the Canton of WealdLake. All are invited to attend, none are required. This is where the usual mundane meetings of the group are done. Agendas for the meeting are sent by email by the group's Seneschal - Lady Odelia of White Waters. To be added to the email list for an agenda, you may contact her at Seneschal@wealdlake.org. Directions to Brewery Becker
Scribal Night at Aliyah's Scribal Scriptorium - Lady Alianor bat Asriel (aka Aliyah) is the canton's resident scribe. She has created several Illuminated scrolls for Their Majesties to bestow as awards for those Their Majesties deemed worth of honor in the SCA. Her work (at least those your humble webminister has remembered to scan in) can be seen here on the Illumination page. She would like to advance her knowledge and skills in the arts of illumination and calligraphy. To that end, she is inviting scribes to come and share their knowledge, and as the best way to learn is to practice: produce scrolls (or more properly phrased - scroll blanks). This is open to all: those who know nothing and would like to try; those more experienced that are willing to share their knowledge and techniques; those who just want to hang out with their fellow scribes. Those scrolls blanks produced will be given to Their Majesties for use as awards or incentives for other kingdoms to come join us on the field of battle as allies (bribes). (The Middle Kingdom is the only kingdom in the Knowne World that provides scrolls for all award recipients.) Welcome all! Contact Aliyah for further information at MOAS@wealdlake.org
Gab and Garb - This is a social gathering of men and women who wish to make garb or medieval clothing. It costs about $15.00 US to make a 'basic medieval' outfit. More formal and elaborate garb such as court garb costs more. This group also is charged by the Canton to make the Canton's banner signage for the Medieval Village. For more information, come to a meeting. Children are welcome at the meetings. There is an area set up with videos and games for children.
Events - One of the most interesting parts of the SCA are "events", our word for the times when we put on our medieval clothing, go out and dance those dances we've been practicing, flirt, eat, talk, and generally have a good time. Events are held almost every weekend of the year somewhere; some weekends there may be as many as a couple dozen events scattered around the SCA. Listed here are our events and those we plan to attend. At events there are often tournaments, art exhibits or competitions, classes on all manner of medieval skills, workshops, and, later in the evening, a medieval feast, Royal or Baronial Court, and dancing. There are many different kinds of events, and the common pattern varies from place to place and season to season. The events are the most fun to most folk, because there we are recreating the "current medieval ages." Events require at least an attempt of Medieval dress or "garb" for participation. See the chatelaine of your local group to either borrow garb or information on how to make quick and easy "garb".
Demonstration or Demo - Similar to an event, in that we put on our medieval clothing, but now we show the best the SCA has to offer to the general public. See the Balloonfest demos list for what we demonstrated from the "current middle ages" to the guests of the Michigan Challenge Balloonfest. Medieval dress is not required to participate.
Newcomers Openhouse - This is for those people who would like to know what the SCA is all about (such as what does SCA stand for). All who are interested in the Middle Ages are invited to attend. Here we will have small demos or samples of SCA arts and Crafts. All Gab and Garb gatherings are also newcomers openhouse events, as we generally are working on SCA related projects. These, however, are not the more formal demo event of a Newcomers Openhouse.
Events linked to on calendar - These are events that the Canton plans to have lords and ladies representing the Canton in attendance. Look for the canton banner for the Canton representatives.
