These are some photos of a doitmyself project.  I installed a ceiling using 2x2 ceiling tiles.  Instead of a hung ceiling I used a product called ceilinglink.  It was pretty easy to use and seems to be made of  good quality plastic.  The big advantage is it screws directly to the joists so you only lose 1 inch of headroom instead of 6.  The project is not done yet, but here are some photos:
