This is my brother's brand new baby. A 2004 Mazda6s.
This is a nice car. It comes factory equipped with a 3.0L
DOHC V6 that is based off of the Ford Duratec block. However, Mazda
took the engine and did its own fine tuning, mainly by adding variable
valve timing to the intake cams. This results in an impressive 220
horsepower at 6300 RPM and 190 lb-ft of torque at 5000 RPM. Car and Driver managed a 15.1 second
quarter mile out of this thing. Not to shabby!!
His car came equipped with leather interior with heated seats,
titanium-colored interior accents, electroluminescent gauges, and the
sport appearance package which includes a sport grill on the front, an
aggressive front bumper and ground effects, and larger oval, stainless
steel exhaust tips. There is also a quickly developing aftermarket
for these cars, so look for some decent mods in the future. :-)
The really cool thing about this car was that Mazda was able to tune the
suspension to offer good ride quality with a very stable, sporty feel.
This thing handles twisties with no problems at all, and does not squat or
dive under heavy acceleration or braking. Thank you Mazda!
