Records - Census, Death Records, Military, Marriage, Grave Markers, Obituaries, Misc., Family Photos
This is my research on the Owens family starting with John B Owens born in Claiborne County TN in 1827. John Owens and Susan Hardy married in 1847 and had six children. John Miller and Catherine Lichlyter married in 1855 and had five children. After the believed death of Susan (Hardy) Owens and John Miller, John Owens married Catherine (Lichlyter) Miller in 1874 and shortly after the birth of their daughter Ellen moved with most of their children to Fannin County, Texas where they had two more children, Charlie and Oscar Jr. The last three eventually moved back to Tennessee where they settled in Dandridge, Jefferson County TN.
I have worked diligently for all of the records to be accurate to this family tree. If you feel something is not correct or have something to add please contact me. I do have records pertaining to the Miller side of the family that is not listed. Contact me for more information.
The records I have here are all selectable for downloading. They are either in JPG, PDF, or RTF format. The JPG and PDF will pull up on there own and can be saved to your hard drive. The RTF is a text file and you will be prompted to load the file. It will generally be in MS Word or Windows Wordpad program. From there it can be saved. Once a record is pulled up, use your browser back button or right click and select back to return to the previous page. Names of women in parenthesis is the maiden name. A name after the maiden name is a previous husbands name.
I have added the records of one of Catherine Lichlyter's daughter by her first marriage to John Miller. Margaret Florence Miller
I have added the information on the Tucker line. Bessie Tucker married Oscar O Owens in Jefferson County, Dandridge TN on May 20th 1905. Bessie Tucker
I have added the information on the Sawyers line. Louise Sawyers married Clarence L Tucker in Jefferson County, Dandridge TN on March 4th 1883. Her father was John M Sawyers. Louise Sawyers
I have added pictures that were from the Catherine Ridgway home in Dandridge TN. They are not named and I need help in identification. Catherine Ridgway
I went searching for an ancestor. I cannot find him still.
He moved around from place to place and did not leave a will.
He married where a courthouse burned. He mended all his fences.
He avoided any man who came to take the U.S. Census.
He always kept his luggage packed, this man who had no fame.
And every 20 years or so, this rascal changed his name.
His parents came from Europe. They should be upon some list
of passengers to U.S.A., but somehow they got missed.
And no one else in this world is searching for this man.
So, I play geneasolitaire to find him if I can.
I'm told he's buried in a plot, with tombstone he was blessed;
but the weather took engraving, and some vandals took the rest.
He died before the county clerks decided to keep records.
No Family Bible has emerged, in spite of all my efforts.
To top it off this ancestor, who caused me many groans,
Just to give me one more pain, betrothed a girl named JONES.
