The Classic "Indian Head" TV Test
Pattern
This classic Indian head T.V. test pattern became an industry standard in the 1940s
and '50s. Originally developed by RCA, the image was electronically generated
onto the picture tube with an instrument called a monoscope. Never before
available in printed form, this very limited-edition 18" X 22" print by Peterson was one of
only fifty that were screenprinted on heavy poster board and sold for $125 a
piece - matted and framed - to a handful of art collectors including T.V.
executives, engineers and nostalgia buffs (after being noted in Playboy magazine
- Feb. '87).
A second edition of the prints featured half-tone enhancements to the chief for the highest accuracy to the original test pattern image (which
only ever existed as a carbon black etching on a small aluminum plate in a
vacuum tube: the monoscope). This edition - offered unframed and unmatted - sold out quickly.
By popular demand, a new limited 3rd edition of this highly collectible icon by Peterson is now available (print only - NO frame or mat). The original specifications for the frame and mat will be provided for framing by others.
