Had to check out by 11:00 so we used up every minute sitting and watching TV. I think we have the right amount
of food for this section, cross our fingers.
The hotel had a service of driving hikers up to the trail so of course we took them up on that offer. Idyllwild
really adapted nicely to hikers, it was a great town. So we were on the trail at about 11:30 and hiked 8 miles up
to San Jacinto Peak (10,834 ft).
We ran in to a bunch of people getting in the big 3 day weekend. It was
unbelievable at the top because you looked straight down to Palm Springs at 1000ft. We sat there eating chips and
salsa. I went to go put the trash in our packs and when I came back Miah had a huge surprise for me. He pulled
out a box, which was covered in dirt, and ask me to marry him!!! I couldn’t believe it! It was a large box that
had a ring on a chair. He got the chain because he knew my fingers would be swollen on the trip. It was just
beautiful! SO we spent time looking over the view and took pictures. It was just an amazing day! There was no
one else on the peak that whole time. I could not believe Miah had hid the ring from me this whole time. He
had it in the bottom of his pack
the whole 190 miles and he didn’t know when he was going to do it. He said he
wanted to at Campo in the very beginning of the trip but the timing was not right. Boy did he catch me off guard!
I have it around my neck as a necklace and I am afraid to get it dirty, just by touching it it will be grimy in no
time. Anyway I just love it! The rest of the afternoon has been wonderful! We have just been heading down the
whole time. There is a huge blanket of clouds that have been rolling up to meet us. And they eventually did!
We had the perfect campsite. We are out of the wind thank God, because I can sure hear it all around and above
the trees. We are in dense fog that moves fast. What a nice evening! (By the way I said “Yes!”)
Miah got hit in the right calf by a bird today. He describes it as a brush with death. :-)
