Sarah is writing her final journal entries.
October 3,2004 update. They have made it to Canada! Click here!
We plan on taking about 4 to 4 1/2 months to finish. The trail is 2,650 miles long! If we take 15 rest days, which is about one day a week, we’ll have to
average about 22 miles per day hiked. We should be finishing towards the end of September. The great thing is my folks, who are
spending their summer in the Yukon, will pick us up in Manning Park, BC. The contest is who will have the cooler
summer!
Anyway, this whole journey would have been only a dream if it weren’t for all the help
we have had to make this happen. I would like to thank all my friends who have made backpacking so much fun for
me, Sarah’s parents for all the support, Bob for making this website, letting
me abduct their daughter for months, and o yeah, sending us food (hopefully)! Bob will be posting the pictures we mail
back along the way. And thanks Mom and Dad for all the support for this trip you’ve given us. You make a great taxi
service! Sarah, thank you for doing this trip with me. As cool as it would
be by myself, I know it will be ten times better with you. And finally, I would like to thank my
brother Adrian for getting this crazy idea in my head in the first place. Four years ago, Adrian was debating whether
to get out of the Marine Corp, and if he did, he was going to hike the PCT. He asked if I would like to do it with
him. Well it didn’t happen, he’s still
serving our country, but I haven’t gotten this trail out of my head!
Thanks again everyone!
I guess I’m supposed to put something like HAPPY TRAILS! Or
something.
I just have to say I would have never even thought about doing this very long and extreme trip if it was not for Miah. Man is this crazy or what!? I am looking forward to sharing our stories with all of you through this web page. Thanks Dad for setting this up and thanks Mom for not tying me to a chair to prevent me from going. Also thanks to the Armolds who will be going out of their way to transport us through the country. I know Grandma and Kirsten would rather see me with a broken leg then go on this trip but thanks for being understanding. Hope everyone enjoys our trip at least half as much as we will. At least it is better than getting a job . . . .
Love to everyone!
Sarah
