Sara (Chasoure) Wasserman was born in Zwolen, Poland in 1897, one of seven children of Leibush Wasserman and Esther Rouchou Finkelstein. She and Jankel Walter (from nearby Warsaw) married and emigrated to Paris in 1927. Yankel Walter's brother, David, married Sara Wasserman's sister, Yetta. The photo above was taken in 1933, nine years before Sara was murdered by the Nazis. Together they had six children, Golda, Regine, Robert, Salomon, Giselle and Leon. Salomon, Giselle and Leon also perished in the holocaust. After the war, Jankel (Jacques) remarried.
