Looking for descendants from the descendants of Edmond Richmond Allyn and Elizabeth Straight who have an incidence of cleft lip or palate (complete or partial) just as an informal survey to explore genetic influence on the condition.

Starting results of known instances: (1) in descendants of GEORGE ROYAL ALLYN: male, 1892 (2) in descendants of LIZZIE ALLYN: male 1918, male 1981. Interesting note: each of the above instances skipped a generation.

It is possible the link goes farther back or is actually in the STRAIGHT lineage, but so far this is as far back as can be traced by known facts.

Click on the EMAIL link in the navigation bar, enter "Cleft Survey" in the subject line, and just provide the name of the ancestor from the following family group the person with cleft descends from, and for the person with the cleft, only list the gender and year of birth to show generation. This will be a private survey, I will only post totals in the format shown in the format above.

DATA: Cleft lip and/or palate occurs in approximately 1 of every 600 births. Only 25 percent of those cleft births have a family history of cleft. In the other 75 percent of births, the cause is unknown.
