Will the Amount of Activity After an Investigation
Increase? |
I've decided to write this article in an attempt to calm those who are worried that our presence, or another team like us, might "stir up" some negative activity. There have been a few haunted sites that we have been unable to investigate due to this. These are sites that have a history of extraordinary eyewitness accounts. Let me say right off the bat, these concerns are certainly justified. So little is known about paranormal activity that it can make anyone a bit uneasy. I'll try to put some of these fears to rest.
Perhaps the best argument I have for this is that we at PIRA have yet to come across a case where the activity has increased in any way. In fact, I have two cases (both of which PIRA has investigated) where the activity decreased! One was temporary while the other seems permanent.
The first is our Church in New Jersey. Just after our first official visit, the owner sent me an e-mail saying that "you must have tired out Mrs. H because we haven't heard her at all the last couple days." This was after a particularly eventful overnight investigation. My guess is that the spirit had a chance to "strut their stuff" and was a little tired. Activity soon got back on its normal routine.
The second instance is, oddly enough, another church. This is the Church in Pipersville. Three members of PIRA visited the church for a preliminary investigation and documented some amazing photographs. In my attempts to get the whole team out there, I have found that all of the activity ended after that night. None of the feelings or experiences that had been reported was taking place anymore. Some might say we scared it off. I think that it wanted to be noticed, and after it was satisfied that it had indeed been noticed, the spirit departed.
What I'm trying to get across to you is that it is very unlikely that ghostly activity will increase or become dangerous as a result of our investigation. We do nothing to disrespect or provoke a negative response, therefore we do not leave you with a ticked off ghost. Of course, I can't say that it can't happen. I won't try to con you into believing that there is no chance that it could happen. I'm saying that I haven't seen it thus far.
Another thing that comes to mind is a home I've been investigating as a guest of the Lehigh Valley Ghost Hunters Society. After three visits, two of which yielded extremely positive results, the owner questioned whether this means the activity was increasing. My opinion is that this activity has always been present; there was just no one near by to witness it. During the evening, the residents would be downstairs, perhaps watching television. No one is on the second floor to see or hear what might be going on.
My point is, the activity is there, and you're just somewhere else at the time. Something else I can add is the report from other credible sites. I scan the Internet and even speak to several other groups to see what's going on in their part of the world. In all the reports, I have yet to read anything about increased or dangerous/harmful activity after an investigation has taken place.
One of the things you should not take into account is Hollywood. Although they put out some really cool ghost movies, they are meant to scare you or give the audience a thrill. They are not showing you what really goes on. Bottom line, they entertain but do not teach.
Hopefully, this article will ease your concerns a bit and open you up to the possibility of having a professional group investigate what's been going on in your house or business. If it does, I would also advise you to do your homework! Look into the team's work and even go as far as to ask for references. Ask about procedures and what kind of equipment they'll be bringing into your home or business. While PIRA takes steps to detect and document activity, we have seen groups who use "questionable" methods that may indeed provoke a negative response. The key word in that last sentence is "may". The reason for that is, like I mentioned at the beginning of the article, we have not come across a case where activity has increased after an investigation. The background check you do should help ease any more concerns you may have.
