Baton Rouge
Old State Penitentiary - Now housing Louisiana State Police
Headquarters and Barracks, this place is a veritable hotspot of ghostly activity.
The old execution chambers and morgue now house offices, while the main two
story building is located over a basement of some sort which is always dark
and seeps with water due to the high water table in Louisiana. Employees
have experienced the sound of footsteps on numerous occasions, which upon
close examination, have turned up with no one being in the area. Other phenomenon
include radios turning themselves on and off and dark spaces which take on
malignant life of their own. |

New Orleans Bottom of the Cup Tea Room - This is where the creole mistress of a well to do business man froze to death on the roof of her lover's home after being dared to do so. Her lover dared her to stay on roof, naked, all night and he would marry her. The problem was that an ice storm came through that night and she froze to death. Her ghost haunts the tea room. Usually she sprays magnolia perfume on women and plays with their hair and plays jokes on men - like shutting and locking a once open bathroom door as a man tries to enter. Cornstalk Inn -This Inn is apparently haunted by children, who supposedly like to use your camera and take pictures of you while you sleep. Lalaurie House - Built by Delphine Lalaurie in 1832, this house was a place of torture and misery. Ms. Lalaurie had a strong hatred towards blacks and kept many chained in her attic, where she tortured them. Today, the ghosts of a tall black figure, Madame Lalaurie, and other spirits haunt this place.Strange sounds are heard throught the house, like that of a chain dragging down a staircase, tortured screams from the attic and the cries of a slave girl near the fountain in the courtyard. Griffin House - unexplained sounds and footsteps are heard here. Gardette-LaPrete House on Dauphine- It was here that a Turk who was impersonating a Sultan lived. One day the "real sultan" arrived and hacked up the imposter and his harem. The "imposter sultan" is supposed to haunt the home on the anniversary of his death by running around the house screaming. One old lady who still lives there (last I heard) has made friends with this ghost and has casual conversations with him. Place D'Arms in the Quarter- This building used to be a school , but people who would stay in what is now a hotel would hear children playing. When they would call the front desk to complain, they would be informed that there were no children at the hotel. Then a older gentleman with a full beard appeared and the children's voices stopped. He is believed to the Head Master of the school and has now "quieted" the children. Many patrons of the hotel have seen him and had conversations with him, but when asked his name he disappears. One woman also has a picture of him in her hotel room. St. Louis Cathedral - Occasionally on early morning rain storms, the spipit of Pere Dagobert can be heard singing the "kyrie". The voice travels from St. Lois Cathedral to St. Louis Cemetary #1. The procession was from a funeral mass He conducted in 1769 for a group of townspeople who led a rebellion against the Spanish occupation. They were exectuted for insurrection against the crown and their bodies were left to rot in Jackson Square as an example. Pere held a mass for them and had them buried to the delight of the townspeople. Laveau House- Marie Laveau, born in 1794 was the Voodoo Queen of New Orleans. She sold potions and conducted ceremonies from her home in the 1830s. For sixty years she seemed to not age at all. Many speculate that there were two woman, perhaps a mother and daughter pair, who made this possible. By 1895, both Maries had disappeared. Now her ghost and the spirits of those who followed her are said to still practice her voodoo rituals in her old house. The Bourbon Orleans Hotel- 717 Orleans Ave (Located in the Vieux Carre')-Confederate Soldiers have been seen walking down halls cold spots in the ballroom. There is guestroom that people hear a little girl crying, when employees go in there is nobody there. Then of course there is basic stuff, Hotel guests that feel a presence at the end of their beds, upon turning on lights the sheets are rumpled as if someone were just sitting there. St. Louis Cemetery No. 2.- . There are actually two unmarked tombs that are rumored to contain the remains of Marie Laveau. The gravestone is said to have a crow looking over it. Some say the spirit of Marie is said to inhabit the crow, while others believe that her spirit is in the form of a large black dog that wonders the grounds of the cemetery.. O'Flaherty's Irish Channel Pub- There are supposedly 4 or 5 ghosts here. One is a former owner who seems to be looking for something, although nobody knows what. One is another former owner of the premises who killed his secretary (servant?) when she wouldn't have an affair with him, and then killed himself. The secretary is also still in residence at the pub, too. Also, another woman who was married to one or two of the former owners of the property is also hanging around. The possible fifth ghost is that of a little boy who became separated from his mom in the French Quarter and died. According to his story, he was wandering, looking for his mother, when he wandered into O'Flaherty's, and at least one of the other ghosts seems to have taken him in.
Pirates Alley - The ghost of the famous pirate Jean LeFeit
is sometimes seen around 3:00 a.m. walking up and down the alley named after
him. |

Biomedical Engineering Building - the old hospital - There
is a presence that inhabits the 4th floor (which used to be where the operating
room was). The elevator continuously travels to the 4th floor although no
offices are located there. It goes from the 1st floor (the old morgue) to
the 4th floor, although another floor has been selected. Noises have also
been heard on the 3rd floor when no one is around. |
